The Onslaught of Pre-Season Magazines

The last few weeks have marked the arrival of preseason college football magazines. I'm sure some used to be like me and buy just about each copy. You have Lindy's, Athlon, Sporting News, Street & Smith's and Phil Steele to name a few. But, for about the last five years I've bought only <a href="http://www.philsteele.com" rel="external">Phil Steele's mag, </a>which checks in a 328 pages this year. I recommend picking up a copy since it delivers hordes of content and data (on every Div. IA team) while being pretty <a href="http://preseason.stassen.com/" rel="external">damn accurate</a> (ahem, <a href="http://preseason.stassen.com/review/" rel="external">#1</a>) - at least as far as preseason magazines go. <CENTER><TABLE BORDER=1><TR><TH>Top 40</TH><TH>Power Poll</TH></TR<TR><TD>Oklahoma</TD><TD>Oklahoma</TD></TR><TR><TD>Auburn</TD><TD>Texas</TD></TR><TR><TD>Louisville</TD><TD>USC</TD></TR><TR><TD>USC</TD><TD><i>Ohio State</i></TD></TR><TR><TD>Texas</TD><TD>ND</TD></TR><TR><TD>Miami</TD><TD>Auburn</TD></TR><TR><TD>ND</TD><TD>Michigan</TD></TR><TR><TD><i>Ohio State<i></TD><TD>Cal</TD></TR><TR><TD>VT</TD><TD>FSU</TD></TR><TR><TD>FSU</TD><TD>Florida</TD></TR></TABLE></CENTER><br />For some early rankings to chew on, Steele has us at #8 in his preseason ranking - which factors in schedule. In his Power Poll, which is solely strength of team, he has Ohio State at #4 and Texas at #2. Based on this, it's not a stretch to see he thinks we win the Big Ten but lose a Texas.
