Leadership, cohesiveness, heart, determination
These words describe the mental aspect of the things we need to be successful next year.
1) Where will are leadership come from on defense - we can look to AJ and then where. Someone else on defense has to step up. Someone that can say lets go guys and the team will respond to. Much like Doss and Nickey in 02. I look for Salley to step up and become a leader on the field. These are the guys that when the game is on the line you can look for to make the play.
2) Where will the leadership come from on offense - I think we can count on some great leadership from Mangold at the Center spot. He will hold that line together like glue. We need the Qb's to also lead this team along with Holmes. We will have some young guys on the field and they need to be there the help them out. Guys like Haw and Pittman. Also Gonzo and Ginn as they are still pups.
3) I think for our offense to be successful we will need our o-line and d-line to be cohesive. We need them to know where each other is going to be at all times. They need to know when they can go to the next level and block or help out their fellow teammate. They need to work together and talk to each other and let them know we are going to make this hole togehter. I think with last year all these guys working together this years line can only be better. Also with a guy like Haw in the backfield they will be able to let him cut off their blocks. Some of these guys are four year starters. I feel they are going to be very tough as a line this year.
4) Heart. Our 02 team had so much heart that I don't think any team could ever match it. We had guys like Krenzel who wasnt the fastest, strongest, or quickest but he had heart. He knew what it took and he gave it is all. I think this year guys also have a ton of heart. We have AJ who everyone said was undersized coming out of high school but look at him know. He has heart and passion for playing the game especially as a buck as he wanted to come back for his senior season. If these guys have that heart like the 02 team we could be looking at something special.
5) I think with what has been reported from the workouts, that this team is showing their determination. They have that urge to just want to be great and they know they can. I think there are many players on this team that have that extra push in them to make them think I ain't done yet, give me some more. If they can keep working hard and not give in to being tired and different things I think this team could be very special.
If this team possesses them characteristics they can go far. I look for this team next year to be very special if they can find some leadership and play together as one UNIT.
