The Big Game? Rubbish! It's The Game!

Maybe it's just me, but I find media attempts to change the name of "The Game" incredibly irritating. There appears to be a concerted effort this year to start calling The Game "the Big Game", especially over at CNNSI.

What's the big deal?

Well, if Ohio State-Michigan is The Game, there can be none greater. If it's "The Big Game", well, then there can be a "huge game", a "toughest game" and etc. Put a qualifying statement in front of it and you can bring The Game down to the level of some other games, over time. That's good for the media, but not either team. Diminishing its importance means less revenue for both football programs.

So what?

The Game has no equal. It may draw the largest US TV audience in history for a regular season sporting event this weekend and almost certainly will be the most viewed college game of the regular season. That means big bucks for Ohio State and Michigan and its something Ohio State and Michigan fans need to fight for.

The Game has no equal. The Game needs no qualifying adjectives. We know it. America knows it. So should the media.

Me too. I always call it Ohio State-Michigan. Sometimes I call it the SBC Ohio State- Michigan game, but that's just me.

That's true. But to me, tOSU-TSUN is also The Game.

And "The Big Game" is Cal-Stanford.

The term "The Big Game" is used when channels that don't have the Super Bowl refer to the Super bowl with.

This is The Game. It has been The Game for decades. The Game has been around longer than The Super Bowl.

Too bad the media hacks who don't give the entire Big Ten any respect year in and year out but are forced to cover this game because of the records of the teams don't realize it.
