Watson, Crick & A Twist
I didn't get to see this game last night, but the result and box score from this morning are kind of instructive in re the fate of Texas in the Big 12.
Texas St isn't one of your big fish (though they are of to a 2-0 start)
A&M have pretensions to make a big noise in the Big12.
A&M won 44-31 last night in front of a crowd depleted by orders for the evacuation preceding landfall of Hurricane Rita.
Thoguh their offensive production looks impressive it is important to remember the stature of their opposition. In that light there is more for A&M to worry about than there is to cheer. The Aggies gave up over 480 yards of offense to a much lesser opponent. This cannot augur well for their Conference campaign.
It appears at this stage that the Horns truly have little to fear from this team out of College Station, TX.
The result also provides a nice counter-point for those urging devotion to high-octane offense for the Buckeyes. Put Texas St. in front of the Bucks D and no way do they give up 31 points. Nice though it is to have a highlight reel with flourishes from the O, it is far more comforting to me to see strong Defensive play.
The aggies lack a strong defense, and were gashed for 378 yards passing last night. They remain pretenders for Conference play.
