I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread where people can post any good deals on airfare and hotels for the Texas trip.

I just bought my plane tickets this week. CMH to AUS 9/6 to 9/12 on Delta. Total with all taxes and fees = $229. Probably won't get any cheaper than that.

I used my dad's frequent flyer miles to get 3 tickets. Coming in the 7th and leaving the 11th. My parents are flying with me...if they can't get tickets for the game then they were going to do some sight seeing. They're both in their mid 50's and not exactly the biggest college football fans in the world, so I was wondering what cool things there are to do around Austin for their age group. Is it worth it for them to drive to San Antonio for a day? I think my dad was able to get a room at a La Quinta a few miles north of campus.

Hell no. There are better places to drive to and see things in the Hill Country than in San Antonio. San Antonio has very little to offer unless you are dying to see the Alamo. Lake Travis, Fredricksburg, Johnson City, etc. to name a few. Lots of good things to do in Austin away from the stadium as well like the wildflower center, town lake, restaurants on Lake Austin, Mount Bonnell, etc.

Im new to this buying plane tickets thing so I could use some tips. What are the best places to get tickets.. 250 seems like a good price.. How long can I wait to buy to make sure tickets are available.. I havent yet decided if Im going to Drive or Fly but I want to make sure the flying Option is still open.. Also, how much are hotel rooms/nite going for down there.. Thanks...

Use orbitz or expedia to check prices, then go straight to the airlines' web sites to get the tickets. They'll always be $5-10 cheaper there.

If you see a price in your budget, I would buy them. That's what I did. I can't imagine, with the cost of fuel and the shape of the industry, that you'll find roundtrip from Columbus to Austin for less than $229.

At that price, it is really worth it to spend $3 a gallon and drive down?

I checked Expedia and their cheapest ticket that I saw was 350 or around that area.. Nothing anywhere close to 250 that these other guys payed.. Am I looking in the right place? Havent checked Orbitz.. Looks like Driving may be in my best interest, just dont know about being in a car that long..
