  • The Buckeyes travel to Knoxville participate in the University of Tennessee Tournament hosted by the Volunteers. Their opponents this weekend will be Marshall, Tennessee and Connecticut.

    Schedule:

Friday, March 12 Marshall 1:00 pm
Saturday, March 13, Tennessee 5:00 pm
Sunday, March 14, Connecticut 12:00 pm

Marshall has started the season at 5-5 by splitting a 4-game series against Samford in Birmingham, AL, taking 2 of 3 in the Citadel Tournament, and losing 2 of 3 to Georgia Southern. Like the Buckeyes, the Thundering Herd played their first 13 games on the road in the South. Unlike the Bucks, however, they return home after the Tennessee tournament to host LeMoyne in Huntington, WV while OSU continues to play away from Columbus for the next few weeks.

The Host Volunteers started their season off in strong fashion by sweeping the Xavier Muskateers in 3 games. Subsequently they have had a rougher time of it, winning only 3 of their next 8. The Volunteer faithful have hopes for an improvement over last year's 26-29 squad, but have a difficult road ahead with games against defending National Champion Louisiana State, Florida and Georgia.

The Huskies my well turn out to be the toughest game the Buckeyes have this weekend. UConn participated in the Big Ten - Big East Challenge last weekend and did quite well, defeating both Indiana and one of the Big Ten preseason favorites Minnesota after losing to Northwestern. The Huskies took 3 of 4 from Cal State - Northridge (a western power). They currently stand 5-2 on the season.

I'm calling 2-1: wins over Marshall and UT, loss to UConn.

The Huskies are for real, folks.

I think 2-1 is resonable...assuming we go with Wimmers, Wolo, amd McKinney.
However, I wouldnt be too surprised if we went McKinney, Wimmers, Wolo like we did last weekend. That might be our best chance to go 2-1, but Marshall is solid; so i don't think we will do that. They have a solid #1 that we will most likely see on friday.

IMO, Here is how we go 3-0...A complete game for Alex vs Marshall, Dean and Drew combine to beat UT, and we can get 6 or 7 quality innings out of Mckinney and Best on Sunday vs UConn.

    Seems pretty simple, eh?

if we use up Rucinski vs Marshall, we go 1-2 or 0-3

I'm hoping we land at 2-1..i'll be very pleased. UConns pitching depth and Tennessee's power worry me the most.

It is going to be so huge to get Eric Best back @ 100%!

Nice effort today to salvage a win in the series. Lost 4-5 to UConn and beat UT 2-0

    From the Official Site

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.- Ohio State ace Alex Wimmers threw eight quality innings and the Buckeyes scored just enough to close out its Arby's Classic weekend with a 2-0 win over Tennessee in the second of two games Sunday in cold, gray and wet Knoxville. In the team's first game of the day, Ohio State lost a 5-4 decision to Connecticut and with the Sunday split, Ohio State is now 9-4 on the season.
Wimmers improved to 4-0 on the season - and to 4-0 in his career when starting after an Ohio State loss - by giving up just three hits while walking five and striking out 10. He issued all his walks in the first five innings before settling down nicely and cruising to the win.
