“I was on the phone with Coach Wilson and Coach Day got on the line as well. We were talking for a little bit about how much he likes me as a player and a person as he congratulated me on my Ohio State offer. The next steps are really just to continue these relationships with those awesome coaches and getting up to Columbus as soon as possible,” The 6-foot-5, 225-pound Georgia native told Land-Grant Holy Land.

Holding offers from the likes of Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Michigan State, Nebraska, Pittsburgh, and Tennessee, the chance to be a Buckeye student athlete was something Christian had on his mind long before the staff gave him the opportunity.

“Obviously Ohio State is one of the best college programs ever,” he said. “Really the main word that comes to my mind when I think of OSU is success. Not only are they an outstanding football team but also great academically. This offer is huge for me. Ohio State was always high on my list even before my recruitment started to take off.”

In addition to Gosnell and Staes, Christian was the third tight end prospect to be offered in mid-June, as the 6-foot-5, 225-pound rising junior from Georgia added the Buckeyes to his list of a dozen offers that includes Penn State, Tennessee, Michigan State and Kentucky.

Christian told Eleven Warriors that he speaks “every week” with Wilson and Ohio State executive director of football relations Tim Hinton, and he talks with Day “every once in a while.”

“They’ve been good (conversations). We’re really just checking in every week and seeing how we’re both doing,” Christian said. “Over the weeks, as I keep getting to know them, I continue to like them more and more. They’re great people. Really enjoy talking to them every week!”

Again, Ohio State is known for not using its tight ends often in the passing game, but it’s still a program Christian is drawn to as he learns more and dissects other players at his position with Wilson.

“Recently, we have been watching a lot of film via Zoom, and I’ve got to see what I’d do as a tight end in that offense. It’s really attractive,” Christian said. “They seem to be using tight ends a lot more from the practice scrimmages we watched. I like the route tree they run and also how they’re used in the blocking game. I think it’s right up my alley.”

Visiting Ohio State is a priority for Christian, and he is looking to make a trip to Columbus as soon as he can, though everything is of course on hold until the recruiting dead period is lifted.

While it could very well be that Christian makes his commitment sometime soon, it sounds a lot like it will just be a top schools list.

“I’m talking to a lot of schools, but I’m kind of narrowing it down to three,” Christian told Kurelic. “The main three are Ohio State, Penn State and Tennessee. I’m talking to those three each week. It’s pretty much those three.”

Christian also said he plans on visiting Ohio State once the whole COVID situation dies down, having already been to both Penn State and Tennessee. Only time will tell what exactly his “big news” tweet is in reference too, but my money would be on an official top schools list in the coming days.

Ohio State: “The coaching staff is tremendous. I can tell over the months of communication with Ohio State that it really is a family environment. They are a really consistent top tier team and always a contender for the playoffs.”

Tennessee: “I grew up a huge UT fan. My dad played ball there and my mom was a cheerleader. Me and Coach Oz have a great connection right now. There’s really no place like Rocky Top and it would be awesome to be part of that Orange legacy!”

Penn State: “Penn State is awesome. Coach Bowen and Coach Howle are not only great coaches, but great people! Penn State is a fantastic school for tight ends and statistically one of the best in the nation!”

Now that he’s got a top three, Christian will check out each program in August, and could make a decision at any point.

“I’m taking virtual visits to all three within the month of August,” he explained. “I think right now as far as committing, my answer would be that I’ll do it whenever it feels right.”

Yesterday, Bill Kurelic of Bucknuts tweeted that Bennett Christian (Acworth, Georgia/Allatoona) would be making a visit this weekend to check out Ohio State’s campus. With one tight-end in the 2021 class already thanks to Colorado native Sam Hart, there’s obviously zero time being wasted in the class of 2022 with Christian already holding a Buckeye offer and taking it on himself to get to campus in the midst of some crazy circumstances.

Though everything is in the air regarding if and when the Buckeyes will play in the spring of 2021, scholarship numbers and eligibility pertaining to the current tight ends on the Ohio State roster obviously have questions to be answered. However, making sure the tight end room is in good shape in both 2021 and 2022 seems to be an early priority for both Ryan Day and position coach Kevin Wilson.

Announcing a final three of Penn State, Tennessee, and Ohio State via Twitter in late July, Christian still has a full two years of high school ball to play, but a decision on his part looks as if it will come much sooner. Currently, he checks in as the 18th-best tight end in the country according to 247Sports. A three-star prospect with nothing but time to continue developing, it’s easy to see why the 6-foot-5, 225 pound prospect has double-digit offers with more certainly to follow.

Even if this weekend looks a bit different than normal, it speaks to how serious Christian is in his interest for Ohio State coming all the way from Georgia to see campus even with the dead period still in effect.

Just askin': With the NCAA recruiting dead period still in effect, how much contact can the coaches and players have with him?
