Why do they raise the student ticket prices. I mean it is bad enough that they make the students sit in the upper deck at the schott for a pretty hefty price for one game. They are already the highest price student ticket in the league. This is not a way to encourage students to go to games.

Also Football tickets are raising too. They are going from 27 to 29. Why I know it is a steal from the General admission of $57 I believe it is still a lot.

Lets try and do a little math here.

If a student were to attend all the football games, which a lot of students do. It would be 29 * 7 = $203

If a student were to attend say 10 bball games, which not many do b/c they are just not as interested as they are in football: It would be 10 * 13 = $130.

If a student were to attend both football and bball games that would be 203 + 130 = $330.

Keep in mind there are more than 10 home games for bball so student sperad the games aout and usually don't attend all games.

So for a student to attend the games they want to they need to fork out $330 a year. While it doesnt seem like a lot, you figure student pay about $300/month in rent and then the $9000-$14000/year in fees you would think the university would not be raising the ticket prices as they are the ones that give the money to the university.

Same could be said for alumini too, but I am not sure if those prices have went up. But most alumni have better jobs than college students so they have a better cash flow.

Ok, I will get down off my soap box now. Opinions????

They do it because they can. If they had a problem putting butts in the seats they would let students go to the games for free like the MAC schools. Look at it from the University's perspective, they lose $30 for every football student ticket they sell. Does it suck for the students? Yes, but that's the price you pay to go to the games.

Well it is more so based on bball, but I put football in there b/c they are raising those prices too, and the fact that many students doent have the money to be able to go to football games and also bball games.

It's called a deficit. Our athletic budget, if I remember correctly, is in more debt than any other in the nation. The Shoe renovations and construction of the Schott were very costly. As long as they can get away with high prices, they are going to do so. Realize student tickets were $24 a game when I got them four years ago. They quietly hike the price $1-2 per year.

$20 our frosh year.
The prices are complete bullshit.
This may surprise some of you, but the university is for students.
Tickets to student athletic events should be priced at a level students can afford, the students must come first.
Good luck selling out games against MAC schools and I-AA teams (if they go that route) in the future.

The athletic department is in a huge debt. I read a article in the Dispatch about 3 years ago that they were #1 on the list of athletic departments in debt. This was after the renovations at the Shoe. Which cost comething around $350-400 Million.

Ohio State was #1 on the list at $297 million in the hole. Can't remember the who the #2 school was, but they were only $30 mil in the hole.

the debt thing is overstated. everyone who hasnt paid off their house is in debt....

its simple economics folks. you are going to have two of the most hyped teams in the country. if you dont think the product is reasonable dont support it.

is the university really for the students, or is it for the state...

Amen. The debt is the only way of financing all of these projects that allow the athletes to have some of the finest facilities in the nation. These facilities convince some athletes to attend OSU, so look at it as you investing in having a good product on the field. :)

The Athletics Department can't exactly sell stock, although I would invest if they ever did.
