Evan Blankenship

_____
We here at BuckeyePlanet learned of Evan Blankenship last summer after he won the award for Top Offensive Lineman at Ohio State’s camp. However, Evan still seems to be somewhat of an unheralded recruit in national circles. Rest assured that the coaches on the staffs at Ohio State and Pittsburgh are very familiar with him after seeing him up close and personal at their advanced camps. Needless to say Evan performed well enough to earn offers from both schools, to go along with another offer from Temple. On July 18th, Evan Blankenship became the sixth verbal commitment in the class of 2007 for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Evan has made several trips to Columbus to experience games at the Horseshoe, and has decided to make it his stomping grounds for the next several years. I got the chance to talk with Evan about his choice to play at Ohio State and other things in “The Straight Six.”

1) When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?

EB: Tradition and hundreds of thousands of screaming fans.

2) What position would you prefer to play in college and why?

EB: Offensive Guard. I haven’t really played there much, I play Tackle right now, but that is what the coaches are talking to me about. I love playing on the line and love to learn new things, so I’m excited about playing on the interior line.

3) This is your senior year...what goals have you set personally and for your team?

EB: My personal goals are to be All-Section, All-Conference, All-State, and All-American. For our team we want to make the playoffs and win a State Championship.

4) When your career is over, how would you like people to remember Evan Blankenship?

EB: One of the greatest that ever played.

5) If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?

EB: My strengths are my feet and pass-blocking ability. I also have good vision to be able to see the blocks that need to be made. I feel I need to work on using my hands better and my run-blocking. I am also working on finishing my blocks better.

6) What are some of your favorite things to do away from football?

EB: When I’m not playing football I’m usually hanging out with my friends or my Mom. My friends and I are always playing pick-up games of basketball. I also enjoy doing work with computers and playing cards.
