Ben Russell of Oak Hills High School in Cincinnati may not be a household name to OSU recruitniks yet, but he just might soon be. The tough-as-nails linebacker, who plays in the tough-as-nails Greater Miami Conference, was invited to visit Ohio State last weekend for the annual jersey scrimmage and was joined. At just over 6-foot-1 and 228 lbs with 4.63 speed, Russell is a rising name in recruiting circles and has picked up offers from Akron and Ball State. Projected by many as an inside linebacker, Russell has also visited schools such as Cincinnati, Michigan, Michigan State, Pittsburgh, Miami (OH), Illinois and Indiana. But he has made it quite clear an OSU offer would be hard to pass up...especially having lived for a few years in the Columbus suburb of Westerville and growing up an OSU fan, due in no small part to the fact that his grandfather played under Coach Hayes. Thanks to Smith at ThaRinger.com, Russell was able to take part in our Straight Six.

BPRT: When you think of Ohio State football, what comes to mind?

BR: Jim Tressel, what a great guy.

BPRT: What college coaches and players keep your attention and why?

BR: Kerry Coombs keeps my attention because that man is a non-stop man, he is always hyped about something going on. On the player side, you got to love the way Ray Lewis gets his teammates pumped before a game and those hits!

BPRT:
You have one more year in your high school career...what goals have you set personally and for your team for this upcoming season?

BR: My goal is to be 1st team all state and to receive an offer from the Bucks of course! For my team, I want to have a great season and make it to the playoffs for the first time [for Oak Hills HS] since 1999.

BPRT:
When your career is over, how would you like people to remember Ben Russell?

BR: I would like to be remembered as a great person who did the right thing and always tried my hardest.

BPRT:
If you were analyzing yourself on film, what would you list as your strengths and what needs some work?

BR: My strengths of the game are: flying to the ball nonstop, filling the whole, never giving up on a play, making the big plays. My weakness is my pass coverage, I need to work on that in the offseason.

BPRT: What are some of your favorite things to do away from football?

BR: I love lifting and hanging with friends and family. Foootball may be over in a matter of seconds when family and friends last a life time.
