  • OK... I'm not a rocket scientist, per se... and didn't stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night either....

but anyone else think that those tile spacers came out... way too friggin easy... so if they come out that easy... what are the chances that these things are what's flying around chipping other tiles when it launches... rattles and rolls.. maybe opening up the gaps enough to let spacers out??

is anyone in BP on the NASA engineer list that can comment??

Personally I think this has been happening all along, we just never knew about it because they didn't check before Columbia. In 25 years of launching shuttles they have had one problem on reentry. I'd put all my vcash that they make it back safely. No way 2 shuttles go down in a row. Another accident might kill NASA.

I personally think that everything will be ok. Since the cause of the 2003 disaster was falling debris, the engineers will make sure that this scenario doesn't happen again. NASA stated that there were no signs that the crew is in any danger. Like exhawg said, back to back catastrophes would seriously jeopardize NASA and their image and I don't think they will let that happen

What really scares me is that NASA has had two years to fix everything. The Shuttle is a great concept, but this version is past its useful life. It is time to retire the fleet and look at new concepts. If they cannot figure out what the new ships should be bring in Burt Rutan.

Agreed except the part about Burt Rutan because I don't know who that is. I suggest they bring in that Rebel Billionaire dude Unless his name happens to be Burt Rutan then therefore that was already sugested and this post become completely irrelevant causing me to look like a complete dueche in that case sorry for wasting your time thank you come again..:tibor:

You're pretty close.. Richard Branson is the Rebel Billionaire... who owns Virgin Galactic... and Burt Rutan designed SpaceshipOne which is, I guess the precursor to their tourism spacecraft. Rutan also designed Voyager, the first plane to circle the world without refueling.

True, but I think it is great the main characters of Bottle Rocket were all based on you. (Go rent the movie in case you do not get it).

Akak's right with what Rutan has done. If memory serves me, Rutan was one of the engineer's who really started pushing canard airplanes about 20 years ago. He did not invent it, just brought it back to life.

And his brother was one of the pilots.
