scUM "Operatives" view of the OSU - Texas game

Take this for what it's worth......I'll see if I can find more out about it. Interesting comment about the "mole" though....

TIME: 1130 hrs Zulu.
LOCATION: Ann Arbor
SUBJECT: TBGUN PLAYERS ON OSU vs. TEXAS

PROJECT CODE NAME: “HaveBlue

BEGIN TRANSMISSION:

Our HaveBlue operatives have been maintaining a low profile and doing a lot of listening. Here's their report on the TBGUN players that have played against BOTH Texas and OSU. As a means to keep our cover, we will not be using actual player names, even though operatives have, in some cases, talked directly with TBGUN players and assistant coaches about the game.

REPORT:

“The first words out of the mouth of the defensive players is, that OSU better first worry about Miami of Ohio. They think the preoccupation with Texas might dull the defensive spirit and present an opportunity for Miami to actually get up early. Miami apparently earned more respect from TBGUN players than was previously published.

Second, TBGUN defensive players have mixed feelings about what OSU should do relative to Vince Young. They have privately said that they felt Young posed very little threat by air to themselves in the Rose Bowl. They feel OSU should definitely keep fresh guys pounding on the Texas offensive line. They also said without BOTH pressure and contain of lanes, the Texas offensive line was good and strong enough to protect Young. They further said they feel they solved the Texas protection package late in the fourth quarter of the Rose Bowl via custom designed stunts along with well disguised blitzes from their 3-4 package.

Offensively, TBGUN feels that OSU can and should eat the clock up and keep Young watching from the sidelines. They do say however that the OSU line will have to have significantly improved, even from THE GAME last November, as Texas' front seven would dominate if they (OSU) haven't improved. They feel that OSU can hurt Texas by running outside and has the depth at wide-out to tire-out the Texas seconday. They note a hugh drop off in talent at Texas in the defensive seconday after the one's leave the field.

In a really interesting development, we have become convinced there is an apparent mole in the OSU football program. We say this because the defensive coaches have twice now put in specific packages designed to stop new formations and new plays which they allege have been created exclusively for Ted Ginn by OSU. They also knew today about Justin Zwick's injury (and it's true level of seriousness) before the OSU SID made his announcement. We saw nothing like this last year.

Finally, an informal poll taken by our operatives shows roughly 80% or better of the TBGUN players think OSU will win, and well over 90% WANT OSU to win. The one area where there seemed to be the biggest range of opinions was relative to OSU's defense. Some think Texas is just that damn good, while others seem to feel that OSU's defense will have transformed themselves into the defense they threw at TBGUN in Nov. 2002, where they only allowed nine points and most of the yardage was achieved late in the fourth quarter when OSU went PREVENT.

A few are predicting blow-out if OSU can get up early and make Young pass, while others feel this will be a classic game about the trenches. Other factors some players mention is playing in Ohio Stadium (more specifically at night), as well as the home crowd. Interestingly, most of the players said Texas would probably not be intimidated by the stadium, Texas will be surprised at the noise and support. If you remember, Chad Henne mentioned this exact thing after THE GAME last year. He too believes Texas has no idea what they are getting into relative to culture and atmosphere when the go to Columbus.

Two position coaches feel that OSU will win as well. The players have actually said they will be rooting for their Big Ten brothers to beat Texas. As operatives, we are still in shock about this. One of the defensive players actually has a tiny OSU flag he plans to wave during the game. We are finding this love somewhat sickening as we know the minute the Texas game is over, it is back to business as usual; OSU is the enemy again."

I seriously doubt there is a pro-UM mole inside the OSU athletics department, specifically the football team/coaching staff. Nothing the UM is alleged to know couldn't be obtained by creating an account here or at BN. Most of us knew about Zwick's injury the same too.

Maybe Lloyd Carr just paid his <strike>$77</strike> $49.95

michigan gave up 17 points in th 4th quarter and they used a 4-3 for about all of the game in order to reduce running lanes for VY. For claiming inside info, they should at least get the basic facts right.
