I met Coach Wyche a few years ago at a 7v7 tournament. Great guy and great with the kids.

Pickens High School head football coach Chad Seaborn refers to Sam Wyche as ?probably the most-experienced, least-paid person in the state as far as football goes.?
As accurate as that statement may be, Wyche, a former NFL player, head coach and offensive innovator who led Cincinnati to Super Bowl XXIII, appears as happy as he?s been during his varied and stellar career.
The 64-year-old, now an assistant with Pickens, was at USC Upstate on Wednesday as the Blue Flame participated in the S.C. Football Team Camp.
?I?m having a ton of fun,? Wyche said. ?I hope the kids are having as much fun as I am. The most teaching is done at the high school level. You get a little less in college and then less in the pros where you?re putting in offenses and strategy. Here, it?s teaching the fundamentals.?
Wyche played for several NFL teams, but really made his name with head coaching stints in Cincinnati and Tampa Bay. As an assistant with San Francisco, he helped tutor Joe Montana and is credited with first employing the no-huddle offense as a full-time attack.
Wyche, who played at Furman and married a Pickens native, last served in the NFL as an assistant as Buffalo?s quarterbacks coach in 2004-05. He then settled down in his wife?s hometown, helping with the football team and serving on county council.
?About every third guy I meet says he used to date her in high school, so it?s always a little risky for me to leave town,? Wyche said.
Wyche?s past also includes several jobs as a football broadcaster, a perfect forum for his glib banter.
