Nate will most likely be one of the top defensive prospects in the state next season. Ohio State has already been in contact and will most likely recruit him heavily next year.

Oliver was named to the Plain Dealer Football All-Star team...

Nate Oliver

St. Edward Junior

Position: Safety

Superstar stats: The 6-0, 201-pound all-state pick has caught the attention of many college coaches. He tallied 42 solo tackles in the regular season, assisted on 21 and had 16 tackles for losses. He added two quarterback hurries, a sack, a caused fumble, two fumble recoveries, four deflections and an interception.

What you didn't know: "I love to sing karaoke. I rent out the videos for parties and stuff, and I love to make people laugh [with the karaoke]."

I personally think Nate was getting an offer either way, so while the timing may be a little odd, the offer certainly isn't. Oliver and Evege are obviously top priorities given our needs. I wouldn't be surprised to see another couple of offers surface, namely guys like Gamble, Dailey, Martin and Torrence.

Something of a suprise in my opinion, the timing of the offer. Maybe this signals a change in our overall recruiting strategy for next years class.

I think we are realizing that there is going to be lots of competition in OH next year because of the depth of the class. Especially with ND almost/already done with their 2006 class. They have been handing out 2007 offers like candy already.
I like the move of offering the "must have" (in the staff's opinion) guys early. It could pay dividends for us with keeping some of the top '07 kids in-state.

agreed. osu knows it will be in a dogfight for certain recruits like clifford, martin and possibly dailey. oliver was going to get an offer anyway. why not get the offers out early and try to lock down as many early commits as possible.

with DB's being a bit thin next year, i can see osu taking quite a few.

These offers may be be an indication of the current class, same as ND's. The 06' class is filling up quickly and I think we are nearing it's completion. With guys like McCarthy, Dublin, ect. in the bag or what not, the coaches probably have a strong grasp on this years situation on who they will and will not get. The early offers are going out to the obvious offers and position of need and I love the way they are starting off the 07' class.

Of course, ND will most likely be a player for this kids signature, thats just how it is at schools like St. Eds, and St. Ignatius. For him to recieve an offer this early shows what kind of a player he is, hopefully we can reel him in and protect our home turf...

I haven't seen film on Oliver yet, but obviously for this kid to get an early offer, he must be special. I think the staff recognizes the advantage of offering early to a prospect at St. Eds and St. Ignatius, especially since ND seems to be back in the hunt so to speak...
