Regular season and conference winning streaks

Our 23-7 win over Purdue yesterday was our 24th in a row in regular season play (extends our school record) and was our 17th straight conference win (Michigan holds the record with 19 straight conference wins 1990-1992). If we beat Michigan State on Oct 20th, we can tie the conference game win streak record at Penn State on Oct 27th.

Records of all Big 10 teams since our 17 game winning streak began:
(Teams haven't played the same # of games because some started earlier in '05 and later in '07)
    Team__________Wins____Losses_____%
    OSU____________17________0____100.00%
    scUM___________13________2_____86.67%
    Wisc___________12________4_____75.00%
    PSU____________10________6_____62.50%
    PU______________9________7_____56.25%
    NW______________7_______10_____41.18%
    Iowa____________5_______11_____31.25%
    Minnesota_______5_______11_____31.25%
    Indiana_________5_______12_____29.41%
    Illinois________4_______12_____25.00%
    MSU_____________2_______14_____12.50%

Sadly, even though they regularly embarrass the conference early in the season and in Bowl Games, the skunk weasles' only losses in the conference since the beginning of our winning streak have been to The Ohio State University. If they had managed to win those two games, this winning streak would be theirs.

In fact, since JT joined the conference, the following are scUM's losses to teams not named The Buckeyes:
    • MSU in '01
    • Iowa in '02 and '03
    • Wisconsin and Minnesota (by identical 20-23 scores), in '05
    • No one in '04 or '06
    • A total of 4 teams for those who weren't counting
Ohio State, by contrast, has lost 9 games to Big 10 teams outside of TSUN.

Only Iowa and Wisconsin have beaten both OSU and scUM since 2001.

Only Iowa has blown out either team in that span, and they've blown out both of them (OSU in '04 and scUM in '02).

In the 3 years since losing three games in a row to start the '04 Conference Season, Ohio State has lost only two conference games. From three on consecutive Saturdays to two in three years is pretty remarkable improvement.

I was thinking the same thing...

I think the "drinker of beer" is taking precidence over the "cruncher of numbers", DBB!

You know, the ironic thing is I am absolutely amazed at the flawlessness and complexity of DBB's stats week in and week out. And the first error I find is in his ability to count to 5.

    :wink2:

That's interesting to see those in-conference W/Ls charted out like that. Made me wonder where we were overall since JT took the helm in '01.

Funny how Badger fans say they are disrespected after having more wins than OSU and Michigan in a 3 year span. When you look at conference games, and in 6 years... ehhhhh, not so much now, huh? .792 > .562 though my math could be a bit off...

This was in the Kent State preview this week.

The Buckeyes have won 15 straight games in the Horseshoe. Here are the longest home winning streaks, all in the 'Shoe:
    25 games - 1972-76
    20 games - 1982-85
    19 games - 1967-71
    18 games - 2002-04
    15 games - 2005-current
