Your freight train picture has a lot of meaning this week lol...

I think Dobbins gets it... he’s been such a monster since that FAU game and I don’t even see MSU slowing him down.

If he stayed for his senior year and was healthy there's absolutely no doubt he'd break Archie's record, and could come close to breaking the 6,000-yard barrier. Assuming we do indeed reach the B1G CCG and at least a bowl game this year, that gives us nine more games this season. Even if he were to average "only" 100 yards a game, that's 900 more yards or 4,010 yards through his junior year, leaving him 1,580 short of breaking Archie's record. He'd need to average 113 yards a game for 14 games in his senior season to do so. But you and I both know that JK is probably going to average more than "only" 100 yards a game the rest of the season, so he could very well end up with 4,200 yards or more by the end of this season, which would definitely put him in striking distance of Archie's mark...

Folks love JK, but I wonder how folks feel about anyone breaking Griffin’s record. I mean, records are meant to be broken and I’m sure Archie would be literally the first guy in line to congratulate, but he’s is THE Legend, so I wonder if there would be some sadness over that.

That's unreal. Just needs over 90 yards to pass Hyde and Byars in one game. JK is running at a different level this year and hoping he can move up that list as much as I love every single player on it.

J.K. DOBBINS' REEMERGENCE A BIG PART OF OHIO STATE'S DOMINANT START TO THE 2019 SEASON

J.K. Dobbins predicted his big junior season 10 months ago.

Ohio State had just capped Urban Meyer's final season in Columbus with a 28-23 win over Washington in the Rose Bowl. The Buckeyes were celebrating, but Dobbins was already looking forward to the 2019 season.

“We’re going to win the national championship, and I think I’m going to have a pretty good year," Dobbins said in January. "That’s all I can tell you."

The latter half of that statement is playing out accordingly.

Dobbins' dominant start to the year is a storyline because of his sophomore slump. He had a fine season by most standards, running for 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns while sharing the load with Mike Weber. But it was a big step back in production from his freshman season, in which he ran for over 1,400 yards. His yards per carry also dipped from 7.2 to 4.6.

But Dobbins had a good feeling about his junior season. The Buckeyes had to replace four starters along its offensive line, which isn't ideal for a running back trying to bounce back from a subpar season. He had two things going for him, though — the shared workload was set to fade with Weber's departure, and the Buckeyes were adding a running threat at quarterback with the addition of Justin Fields.

Both were important elements for Dobbins. He proved in his first two seasons that when he was featured in a primary role next to a dual-threat in the backfield, he could make big things happen.

That's playing out this fall. Through five games this year, Dobbins ranks second nationally with 652 rushing yards to complement six total touchdowns. They're impressive numbers considering he carried the ball just eight times in Ohio State's 71-point demolition of Miami (Ohio).

This is the expectation Dobbins had for himself, but it was also a challenge made by his new head coach during the offseason.

"[Dobbins] is one of the guys that has to play good... especially in the first six games of the year," Ryan Day said before the start of fall camp. "He’s got to have a good year for us."

A one man wrecking machine

The second quarter offensive explosion that helped OSU pull away included Dobbins doing what he does best: breaking away from defenses.

A 67-yard sprint to the end zone included a whiffed punch-out attempt at the end of the run that, basically, summed up the game.



Gashing the MSU defense for 172 yards, Dobbins was the ground presence that every team dreams about having in these types of situations. A big home game at night, with practically the crowd donning black, while the team rocks their alternate black uniforms, a performance like Dobbins’ is as close to a shot of adrenaline as you’re going to get in human form. That second quarter TD run was electric, and combined with the Fields-Victor 60-yard TD pass, was the play that broke the Spartan defense.

It wasn’t his best career day on the ground numbers-wise, but it definitely will be one of the highlight reel worthy rushes when his OSU career comes to an end (likely this coming January).

If Dobbins does his thing, and Fields does his, there’s not much more an offense can do — including Alabama, Clemson, Georgia, LSU or Oklahoma.
