QB Justin Fields (2019-20 B1G Off POY, 2020 Silver Football, 2019 B1G CCG MVP, New York Jets)

To Date:
  • Troy Smith had the best career against TTUN
  • Dwayne Haskins had the best single game
    • That performance vs what had been the #1 defense is an all-timer
Going Forward:
  • Degree of difficulty is lower for Justin so best game would be tough
  • If he has a second year even close to what I expect, he won’t be back for a 3rd, so best career would be tough
  • Even if bullets one and two remain true, which seems likely, there’s still a lot of history to be made by Justin Fields

Re-watching The Game '05 today and Troy Smith is the one Fields reminds me of the most.

Except Fields has better tools both running and throwing along with an infinitely better offensive coaching staff.

    • Smith in 2004, with a team that came in 6-4. 13-23 for 241 with 2 TD and 0 picks and 18 for 145 and 1 TD rushing. I'll put that performance up against any other, including Haskins last year, notwithstanding the "#1" ranking of their 2018 D.

I think Troy made better decisions. He was decisive and rarely wrong. Fields has gotten better in speeding his decisions up....and his TD/TO ratio is proof that he's no slouch. That's where Troy has a big edge over Fields as it stands today.

We’re comparing subtle differences between a Heisman winning senior and a first year winter transfer starting sophomore.

The most impressive part of Troy’s tenure to me was the depth of talent at WR...long NFL careers 5 deep.

And to the earlier argument...Troy flat balled out in The Game. I love JT, but he played ok in 2014, ok in 15, horrendously in 16 (you couldn’t tell on TV, but there were guys running wide open all game), and poorly in 17.
