QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

As a lifelong Buckeyes fan I obviously love the kid...I just acknowledge his shortcomings as a passer. He's lights out in the read-option game, and our greatest stretches of success with him at QB have been when we rely on that exact thing.

The thing is, most people do. I don't know many hardcore osu fans who think Barrett is a great passer. Most everyone acknowledges he has been inconsistent. But if we're going to talk about judging in vaccuums, let's not forget he's had 3 different OCs and position coaches, 1 who is widely thoight of as below average. Not to mention a head coach who has to do some soul searching every season when considering what he wants his offense to be.

J.T. BARRETT FOCUSED ON TASK AT HAND AHEAD OF SENIOR DAY AT OHIO STADIUM

J.T. Barrett's first game starting in Ohio Stadium was borderline nightmarish.

As a redshirt freshman, Barrett completed just nine of 29 passes for 219 yards and three interceptions as unranked Virginia Tech stunned Ohio State in the 2014 home opener.

All Barrett did after that was help the Buckeyes rattle off 11 straight wins, en route to an appearance in the Big Ten title game and subsequent College Football Playoff. While an injury suffered against Michigan kept him out of that playoff run, Barrett said Tuesday – just days before his final game in Columbus – that seeing the confetti fall in Dallas in January 2015 will be one of his favorite memories as a Buckeye, despite not being on the field.

"I claim every bit of that ring," Barrett said. "That's really wild that y'all still ask me that. I was excited about winning a national championship."

The highs and lows of Barrett's career have been well documented. His ankle injury kept him out for a portion of spring practice in 2015, and he ultimately lost the starting job to Cardale Jones before winning it back later in the season.

A suspension against Minnesota for an OVI gave Jones the starting job back for a week before Barrett resumed the starting role only to lose his second game in Ohio Stadium, a 17-14 stunner to Michigan State.

Barrett's positives largely outweigh the negatives, despite what some Ohio State fans might think. The Wichita Falls, Texas native has a record of 23-3 as a starting quarterback in Ohio Stadium, and has the opportunity to be the first quarterback in Buckeyes history to go 4-0 against Michigan.

In typical Barrett fashion, when asked if there was any concern about Ohio State overlooking Illinois, the veteran quarterback said the Buckeyes are focused solely on their upcoming opponent, despite a 2-8 record.

"We have to go get the Illibuck trophy," he said.

JT is one of my top 3 players all time. That list is a distinguished one. Deserves all the credit in the world. I can't say for sure that he wouldn't be undefeated as our QB if we decided to run the ball on several occasions.
Or, if he never had to regress with Tim Beck and that offensive debacle.

I'm personally sick of hearing idiots like Bruce Hooley suggesting that "the masses" generally think JT Barrett is only a stat compiler while completely ignoring his leadership qualities and athletic prowess for the stats he has garnered. "Any QB in an Urban Meyer offense would compile similar stats over a 3 year period." Baloney. 3 OC's, 3 QB coaches and a fresh batch of WRs seemingly each year to go along with a broken leg. Kid has been amazing all things considered and his records will never be broken at tOSU. 10 years from now I hope we are all talking about JT in the same reverent tones we use when talking about Troy and Craig, if not even more.

Actually he'd be the first starting QB for either team to go 4-0 in The Game.

Let me add that, while I in no way disrespect the backups in line to take his place, I would hate to be the poor slob who gets the job. No pressure there!
