QB J.T. Barrett (B1G FOY, All American, Silver Football Award, 3x B1G QBOY, National Champion)

He's a "special" Buckeye. Not perfect but a leader and wants to do the right thing.
A very fine college QB.
Deserves the Heisman?
That will depend on his team having a great year. And voter perception.

J.T. BARRETT CONTINUED HIS ASSAULT ON OHIO STATE'S RECORD BOOKS WITH BIG DAY AGAINST BOWLING GREEN

As part of our season preview series we chronicled the list of career Ohio State records potentially primed to fall over the course of year. As you'd expect, J.T. Barrett highlighted the list as he's a real threat to break, or keep a hold of, no less than 10 school marks.

As you'd also expect, after completing 21 of 31 passes for 349 yards and six touchdowns with another score on the ground, Barrett is moving on up the Ohio State career records board.

Here's how Saturday's big game impacted his march to legendary status.

CAREER PASSING YARDS PER GAME
Entering Saturday, Joe Germaine was the school’s all-time leader in career passing yards per game at 172.2 after throwing for 6,370 yards in 37 games.

Also entering Saturday, Barrett sat in 2nd place with a 166.3 passing yards per game average thanks to 3,826 passing yards in 23 career contests. After going off for those 349 yards versus Bowling Green, Barrett is your new all-time school leader boasting an average of 173.9 passing yards per game (4,175 passing yards in 24 games).

CAREER 200-YARD PASSING GAMES
With 349 on Saturday, Barrett logged his 10th career 200+ yard passing game moving him just one behind Germaine's school record of 11 such outings. To date, Germaine played 13 more games than Barrett so it's hard to envision Barrett not breaking the record Saturday night in Oklahoma or else after the bye week against Rutgers.

CAREER 300-YARD PASSING GAMES
Besides opening the BG game with a pick six Barrett was largely on target the rest of the afternoon on the way to those 349 passing yards. The 300-yard effort marked his 5th such outing, good for 2nd place in school annals.

Again, Germaine is the benchmark here with eight such games. Breaking this mark isn't a gimme for Barrett but is definitely reachable.

Healthy, confident and controversy-free, J.T. Barrett is back to breaking records
Austin Ward ESPN Staff Writer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The start was clearly less than ideal, and as J.T. Barrettwent back to the sideline cursing himself, he almost couldn’t believe it.

But just in case anybody needed a reminder of how different the situation is for the Ohio State quarterback now compared to a year ago, one popped up right away when Barrett opened his season with an interception that was returned for a touchdown.

There were no calls from the fans in the Horseshoe for the backup. There was no reason for Barrett to look over his shoulder or expect a quick hook from the lineup. Urban Meyer didn’t even feel the need to have a conversation about the turnover -- leaving the unquestioned leader of the Buckeyes as the only one having any words with him over the rocky start.

“The conversation I had with myself, though, it’s just like, ‘Well, darn, J.’ But I didn't use darn,” Barrett joked on Monday. “I try and keep it PG in here.

“But I was, like, man, J. If somebody could've told you that you were throwing a pick-six on the first drive of 2016, you'd be, like, ‘You're a liar.’

Cont'd ...

He's been exceptionally efficient so far, which makes it hard to criticize him, but I'm a little concerned hes still not throwing guys open and also seems very hesitant to throw at times. Almost more hesitant than 2014.

Can't argue with his numbers and the wins, I just hope he gains better chemistry with the WRS and begins to make quicker throws to put pressure on elite defenses. Hopefully they can work on the passing game against Rutgers.

and just in the last few weeks people were talking about Barretts passing ability...i just wanted to tell them..."you know he's probably going to break every osu career passing record"...i couldnt tell them that, because i'm a nobody who isnt on tv

Well to be fair, Steve Bellasari is in the top 10 of most Ohio State passing records. People commenting on "passing ability" for a QB doesn't always equal stats. It is a debate that has played out over decades of football.

Josh Rosen at UCLA can make every throw and make it look pretty. Some guys are more concerned with a QB's won/lost record. I mean, it's an endless debate.

For this offense there is no one I'd rather have at QB but that doesn't mean JT's necessarily a great passer.
