Penn State at tOSU, Sat. 10/21, 12pm EST, FOX

Penn State CB Kalen King 'excited' for October battle with Ohio State WR Marvin Harrison Jr.

Marvin Harrison Jr. is widely considered the best wide receiver in college football. He’s a projected first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and Penn State cornerback Kalen King looks forward to facing him. The Nittany Lions defensive back is one of the nation’s best players at his position, setting up an intriguing clash between stars Oct. 21 in one of the Big Ten's biggest games.

“I’m very excited to go up against him,” King said, via Max Chadwick of Pro Football Focus. “Marvin Harrison Jr. is a very good player. He’s got all the intangibles from size, speed, catch radius and run after catch. That’s the perfect challenge for me, and that’s the challenge I need to put myself up against if I want to be the top in the country. That matchup is very important, and I can’t wait for it.”

Covering Harrison one-on-one was a burden for defensive backs last season, but King isn’t shying away from the potential of it happening in 2023.

“I’m going to try and work something out,” King said.

I got a sneaking feeling this game might be the toughest we play all season, even counting that whore up north.

PSU is going to be real BiG football this year, run the ball and stop the run, just like ttun was last year so it's going to be a toughness test and we better fucking pass it.

11. PENN STATE (OCT. 21, HOME)

Average Ranking: 10.2
High Rank: 8
Low Rank: 11

Penn State has been consistently circled as one of the biggest annual tests on Ohio State’s schedule since the Nittany Lions upset the Buckeyes in 2016, and this year is no different.

The Buckeyes have won the last six matchups with the Nittany Lions, but James Franklin may have his best squad this year since the one that won the Big Ten seven years ago. Expectations are high for new Penn State quarterback Drew Allar, while Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen are one of the nation’s best running back tandems and Chop Robinson, Abdul Carter and Kalen King headline a defense loaded with playmakers.

Ohio State hasn’t lost to Penn State at home since 2011, and the Buckeyes will have the benefit of the home crowd on their side this year. That will only make life more difficult for an inexperienced quarterback in what will be Penn State’s biggest road test of the season. But with exactly half of our voters ranking this as the second-most concerning game on Ohio State’s schedule, there’s a clear consensus that the Nittany Lions are not an opponent to be taken lightly.

Fans Enraged After Joel Klatt Leaks Upcoming Big Noon Kickoff Game

Joel Klatt seemingly let it leak while speaking on The Herd that he’ll be calling the potential top-ten matchup between Penn State and Ohio State as Fox’s Big Noon Kickoff the week of October 21st. When college football fans, particularly those who root for the Nittany Lions found out, they showed their frustration on Twitter.

Fans are pointing out that the three most competitive games on the Big Ten schedule (Michigan at Penn State, Penn State at Ohio State, and Ohio State at Michigan) are now all avoiding primetime being booked as the Big Noon Kickoff game for their respective weeks.

"We want to be explosive as we can as an offense; that's always the goal," Allar said after the win over Northwestern. "I missed some explosive opportunities. You can say all you want about not being explosive, but people don't know how close we are to breaking a lot of things off. It's one missed block here, or one missed assignment there. It's missed throws by me, and I had plenty of them today. It's all things we can clean up. It all comes down to timing."

"There will be a lot of film work," Allar said. "It'll be different because I can watch previous games. I'll be able to bounce back and forth between watching us and watching our next opponent. It'll be good learning for me and the entire offense. It is going to be a huge bye week for us. We can only get better. We have to take that mindset into next week. Even though we don't have a game next week, there's a lot to improve on and a lot of work to do. We'll come out of the bye week better and hit the ground running."

"Very proud of our defense," Allar said. "They had our backs there in the beginning when we weren't doing very well. We were able to play a little bit better complimentary football in the second half. It's a huge win. Being on the road in the Big Ten is never easy, no matter which team you are going against. It is definitely a good win for us."

Would be lying if I said I wasn’t really nervous about this one. I’ll wait until game week but it’s hard to ignore how good their defense has been — might not be a good recipe with our OL, developing offense etc.

Never underestimate James Franklin's ability to fuck up.

That said, the difference against Penn State used to always be our DL just killed their OL. I'm having a hard time believing we are going to beat anybody along either line of scrimmage going forward.
