Walsh Jesuit's Greve says he'll play baseball at OSU: High School Insider
Plain Dealer staff reports, August 18, 2009
CLEVELAND, Ohio - Pitcher/third baseman Greg Greve, who helped Walsh Jesuit reach the Division II state championship baseball game for the third time in the last four years, has made an oral commitment to attend Ohio State.
Greve, 6-3, 195 pounds, was instrumental with his arm and bat in helping the Warriors finish the season with a 28-4 record.
The Brecksville resident compiled a 7-1 record and a 1.74 earned run average, striking out 60 batters in 48 1/3 innings. He got the Warriors into the state semifinals when he threw a five-inning 10-0 no-hitter against Lima Shawnee in the regional finals. He was a hard-luck loser in the Division II state championship game when Walsh lost to Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin, 2-1.
"It was disappointing to end our season like that, especially after we had played so well all season long," he said. "But, we have a lot of guys coming back and maybe we can make another run at it."
Greve batted .409 with four home runs and 31 runs batted in. The opportunity to pitch and hit was one of the things that sold him on OSU.
"They told me they would like to see me with a bat in my hands and that was very important to me," said Greve, who was offered a scholarship when he made an official visit in June.
An outstanding student with a 4.07 grade-point average and membership in the National Honor Society, Greve said he was undecided on a course of study.
Greve, one of 16 underclassmen on the Walsh roster, joins Mayfield's Tim Wetzel as the only area players to commit to the OSU baseball program.
