The Ohio State University Women’s Volleyball Team hit 50% over the weekend.

It all began with a loss on Friday the 6th with a defeat against Maryland at College Park. They fell by the minimum two-pt edge in all three sets: 25-23, 28-26, 27-25.

The Buckeyes in this match did shine defensively out-digging Maryland 55-49. But The Terrapins out-classed the Buckeyes with eight blocks to six.

Valeria Leὁn, Katie Mitchell and Taylor Sandbothe produced highly individually. Leὁn set the standard for the night for the Buckeyes with 14 digs. Mitchell and Sandbothe would combine on 21 kills. Sandbothe added a dominance of 16 error-less swings (.562) which was combined with four blocks and an added three blocks. Mitchell would have 12 kills and 5 digs.

It wouldn’t be enough. Maryland prevailed – winning 3-0.

Saturday the 7th would fortunately be another story.

In Piscataway the 12th ranked Buckeyes earned their 20th win of the season as they dominated and commanded a 3-0 sweep (25-13, 25-16, 25-19) over Rutgers.

The Buckeyes headed back to Columbus after their short visit to New Jersey owning a 20-6 record.

The Buckeyes outmatched the Scarlet Knights – outscoring them since they have entered the Big 10 225-136 with three straight wins.

Emily Ruetter drove the offense – delivering 35 assets as she handled one kill. Audra Appold and Katie Mitchell as a duo were responsible for 12 put-aways and a .500 individual attacking efficiency. Elizabeth Campbell would have 8 kills and would be .333%. Taylor Sandbothe would inflict considerable damage too (6-0-18: .333%).

The Buckeyes dominated. They rebounded powerfully from their loss of the day before.

As the end of the season progresses a lot is at stake. The Buckeyes now with 6 losses do not seem to be in danger of not making the tournaments. But further losses will be damaging. So a controlled focus certainly will be instilled to prevent lower placements in the tournaments.

The Buckeyes next will met up with Illinois at St. John’s on Nov. 11th at 6:30 pm. Illinois too is ranked nationally.

It only gets better. The Buckeyes hold their own destiny.

See you there.http://cdn1.bloguin.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/166/2015/10/volleyball.jpeg
