OSU Students, help recruit?

EDIT: this is not legal

Hey, Conley/Oden said they loved all of the "we want conley/oden" banners put up around campus. Come on, this is a tiny little school with 4000 people. Imagine if we can get the word circling around campus to do the same for these two at OSU.

Its kinda cheesy, but if they love it, we might as well do what we can to help these two love OSU even more. Perhaps another idea would work better.

If you don't know, Oden will be the #1 draft pick if he's allowed to go to the NBA and Conley is the top PG in the country.

For those of you, who do not follow basketball recruiting news, Thad Matta is making a HUGE push to bring some of the top prospects to OSU and the weekend of 7-9 May OSU will be hosting Greg Oden, Mike Conley, Thaddeus Young, Dequan Cook and possibly David Lighty. This is a huge weekend for the program. All of these players are ranked in the top 25 of the 2006 class. We want to make these kids feel welcomed.

Careful folks. Any booster or official part of the university has to be very careful about stuff like this. Go to the basketball games and they even make announcements reminding boosters they can't even say 'Hi" to a recruit while on an official visit.

Spontaneous stuff happening is one thing but an organized push could put these kids in jeopardy. Anybody remember Damon Flint? Different circumstances, but it was a pretty trivial issue that cost OSU a chance at him.

If they come they will come for Matta - not our signs.

That's one thing I was curious about.

If it was a pretty concerted effort, would Wake be in trouble?

I started the thread figuring well they did it, so it must be ok... and if not someone will call me on it.

I am trying to get some information regarding this issue.

I have emailed the compliance office to explain our proposed signs. If I don't get an answer by tomorrow afternoon, I will give them a call.

Here is the email address for future reference: [email protected]

I simply asked the compliance office if a fan of OSU or student could in fact be involved in putting up signs with a recruits name, picture welcoming them to OSU and if that was in violation of any NCAA rules.

We will see if I get a response.

On BN, KyleSLamb responded multiple times to the concept of people posting signs, and he never warned posters about violations. Take that FWIW.
I think that students placing banners in their windows and around campus is fine..... kind of like the student section chanting Chris Wells name at a basketball game. Thats because it is spontaneous, not planned. Making an effort to get people together to sway these guys to come here might be looked at as a bad thing. Especially since we are already under the microscope.

I think I would let this idea die. If they want to come here it will be to play for Thad, not for some signs.

That might be a good idea, but I would be curious if it is in violation of any NCAA rules. It was recently done at another university.

I was asked to contact OSU and then we will go from there.:wink2:
If it can be done without problems, I say what the heck. I would just hate to see the program get in anymore trouble. I think it would also look like an attempt to copy what WF did. Give them some football tickets and a DVD of the Illinois game, if you want to make an impression.
