The Ohio State Football team is undefeated in Big 10 Play…

…So is the Ohio State Men’s Rugby team.

Opening up against Illinois on September 26 @ Fred Beekman Park they had a convincing 57-10 win.

This past weekend, October 3rd, the Buckeyes traveled to West Lafayette, IN to visit the Purdue Boilermakers. The statement to the rest of the Big 10 would be the same as the previous week.

The truth is the Buckeyes are a much better team than Purdue. The players know it. The coaches know it. But does such realities conquer end results? Most times – yes! But over-confidence certainly can and will destroy a victory.

The coaching staff was dominated with the need to illustrate to the players of jumping out fast – giving Purdue no hope. Once the opposition has hope – all is possible. The second stage for the coaches was to assure that the Buckeyes athleticism and scheme took over. Opportunities had to be created – they certainly aren’t given – and Purdue wasn’t in the market to gift wrap a Buckeye victory.

First Half

10 minutes in Jo Jo Eramo scored a try as the Purdue wing tries to hit the Buckeyes fullback Ronan Forestal. Ronan though managed to flip a quick pass to Jo Jo who simply did the rest. The long kick from the right side by scrumhalf Taylor Hurff was good. The Buckeyes were up 7-0.

14 minutes in Purdue got a try. With 8-man Santino Cua held out, as well as flanker Matt Stauder who would normally slide over to 8-man with Santino out. This dropped the lack of continuity at the back of the scrum that was needed – clearly leading to sloppy play. Result: Kick good – 7-7.

21 minutes – Buckeyes earn a scrum around their 30-meter line. They are penalized – pushing early. Taylor Hurff quicktaps and outlets to Ian Hildebrand, spinning a great ball behind the crashing Ryan Skelly to Jo Jo who then skips Mike Matthews and Ronan Forestal with a long pass that finds Jack Walsh who beats his man to the outside and then steps inside their fullback to put the ball down. Hurff’s kick is good from the left side. 14-7 OSU.

The first half would continue with the commanding dominance of the Buckeyes ending with a 42-7 lead.

Second Half

8 minutes in – 8-man Freitag walks in. Hurff’s kick is good. Buckeyes up 49-7.

Just as the game began and the “realism” there-of – the Buckeyes were simply too good, too talented, and too much on a mission-statement to the Big 10 – saying Buckeyes Rugby is here!

The Ohio State University’s Men’s Rugby team made a statement against the Purdue Boilermakers in West Lafayette, IN. The Buckeyes would win 78-7.

The Buckeye’s Men’s Rugby team is undefeated in the Big 10. This coming Saturday, Oct., 10th at Fred Beekman Park, 6:00 p.m. vs. *ichigan State Spartans we WILL witness a 3-0 record in Big 10 play.

Come and witness!
