CARSON, Calif. -- Oscar De La Hoya plans to fight three times this year, then retire.

"I'm at that stage of my career now where I can't take it further," the 35-year-old De La Hoya said Tuesday. "I can't go on for the next two years, three years. It's just time to hang up the gloves.

"This is the year."

Oscar De La Hoya wants a rematch with Floyd Mayweather Jr. before leaving the ring for good.

British boxer Hatton joins Golden Boy Promotions

Junior welterweight champion Ricky Hatton of England, one of the most popular fighters in the world, signed with Golden Boy Promotions on Thursday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but HBO has been talking with the Hatton camp about a three-fight contract, multiple sources involved in the negotiations told ESPN.com. Hatton's previous HBO deal ended last year.

Golden Boy promoted Hatton's 10th-round knockout loss to welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. on Dec. 8. Hatton had a good experience working with Golden Boy and many in the boxing industry believed he would sign with Oscar De La Hoya's company long term.

Round 3 to Pacquiao

De La Hoya is swelling above his left eye. Pac hasn't slowed down any but the punches De La Hoya has thrown have hit his forearms and gloves mostly.

I don't think Pac can knock him out but De La Hoya is going to take a beating at this rate.

Round 4 to Pac

He started throwing more (De La Hoya), but Pac is able to duck or block most of them.

I take back the statement about Pac not being able to knock him out. If he sees an opening Pac is swinging for the fences.

Nevermind - Pac is getting whatever he wants. The last round (5th) was close, this round (6th) was not.

Pac is up at least 5 to 1 and a lot of people would have given him the 5th too.

De La Hoya needs a KO or several knockdowns to win at this point IMO.
