Victor Singleton is headed north this weekend to watch the Wolverines take on the Longhorns.

Though it’s just Week 2 of the season, Ohio State has improvements they want to make, and tomorrow against Western Michigan is the next chance at doing so. Likely not the biggest recruiting weekend with another MAC opponent in town, it will be interesting to see how the staff uses the off week the following weekend.

A safe bet is that recruiting will be right atop of their priorities without a game to prepare for in Week 3.

Keeping tabs on top prospects

Looking at defensive back recruiting in the near future, Ohio State is fortunate to once again be in a similar position to its standing in the 2024 class. Coming up in 2026, the Buckeyes have in-state cornerback targets Elbert Hill and Victor Singleton, who are not only top players in Ohio, but top players nationally.

Not a guarantee that they’ll both end up picking Ohio State in the end, the Buckeyes do have the momentum in their favor early on, as both have been pegged to stay at home for their college careers according to the 247Sports Crystal Ball.

Likely a duo that position coach Tim Walton puts a ton of time and effort into like he did with Bryce West and Aaron Scott Jr., the Buckeyes having prior experience similar to this situation plays in their favor. Keeping both guys close to the program until they make their pledge is a major goal.

Ohio State will have some stiff competition for the talented defensive backs, and this weekend it starts with Singleton making the trip to Ann Arbor to watch Michigan and Texas square off.

The No. 76 player nationally and seventh best cornerback per the 247Sports Composite, Singleton taking this trip shouldn’t be that worrisome considering the caliber of game he will be watching, but seeing a top target headed to enemy territory is never something you’ll feel great about.

As mentioned, Ohio State is the thought to be leader in this recruitment. While Michigan having him on campus is a small win for them, the Buckeyes will be tough to beat here, and will look to get him back on their own campus shortly after this weekend’s visit is in the books.

The staff will have tons of chances this year to play host to Victor and others, and they’ll do all they can to continue building what looks to be an early lead for his commitment.

Quick Hits

  • Sticking with the theme of in-state targets and visits, the Buckeyes look to be in line to host Warren, Ohio product Chaz Coleman in the coming weeks, as he also plans visits to see both Kentucky and Michigan State as well.

A three-star prospect, Coleman is currently the No. 57 athlete and No. 31 player in Ohio per the 247Sports rankings. Without an offer from the Buckeyes yet and being in the 2025 class, it’s too hard to tell if Ohio State has room in this current cycle.

The two biggest offers to his name thus far are from Kentucky and Ole Miss, but the visit plans he’s setting for the next few weeks makes it possible that additional programs will become more interested. The visit to see the Buckeyes may not end up being newsworthy, but it’s never a bad idea to keep an eye on the in-state prospects checking out Ohio State.
