OL Taylor Decker (Detroit Lions)

Well, if he was that interested in Notre Dame or in making a quick commitment who knows. It seemed plausible that tOSU would have offered later, but recruiting is often just so fast now and the staff may have told him that the Buckeyes weren't a realistic option. The last successful linemen to leave Notre Dame to the pros was... Petitgout?

But I'm sure he'll enjoy the Irish either way.

I like Dodson personally...but could see OSU waiting to evaluate both at camp.

Reported verbal offers out to Alexander, Pirsig, Humphries, Goodman, Diamond and Webb means OSU is casting a wide net for tackles out-of-state but will probably be fairly selective in-state.

Good luck to Taylor at ND. The staff slow-playing his offer tells me they had uncertainties about his worthiness. Hopefully this doesn't bite us later.

hi guys -- ND fan here. very impressed with this thread as it was the first that showed up when i searched decker's name a week or so ago (rumored that he was gonna commit) & i learned quite a bit. you guys seem like genuine class acts & truly knowledgeable fans. i mostly post at scout & you've changed my perception of buckeye fans. seems like you've really got a great board here -- thanks for the info & well wishes to taylor; seems like he really found where he wanted to be. very nice to see a thread about a recruit with intelligent posts & no bitterness.

never thought i'd be saying this to OSU, but best of luck next year! and at least he wasn't a meatchicken.

From what I've heard from my Vandalia sources, Taylor probably would have chosen ND over OSU even with an offer from both. That may have something to do with a lack of interest shown from OSU in general, but he was pretty high on ND from the start. Good luck to him.

Butler lineman Decker likely not playing for OSU's Meyer
Urban Meyer has shown interest in Taylor Decker.

A few blue-chip high school football prospects throughout the state have broken verbal commitments to side with new Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer.

That list does not include Vandalia Butler offensive lineman Taylor Decker, who apparently will honor his commitment to Notre Dame.

Decker, a 6-foot-8, 288-pound offensive tackle, did not receive an offer from OSU while former head coach Jim Tressel was in place. Decker verbally committed to the Irish last spring when Tressel?s era at OSU was unraveling.

New Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer has contacted Butler head coach Greg Bush. Decker did not respond to several attempts for comment.

OSU?s lack of pursuit of Decker was puzzling to Bush. Decker had offers from most of the elite Big Ten football programs.

?It wasn?t like Ohio State didn?t know that (Decker) was here,? Bush said. ?We didn?t keep it a secret.

?I?ve had as much contact (with OSU) since Urban took the job as before (his hiring). You can read whatever you want into that.?

Taylor Decker has been a Notre Dame pledge for the class of 2012 since early March. Now just two days into the new year, Decker is one of several Irish pledges learning the hard facts of college football recruiting. We have a short update from the Ohio offensive lineman.

Most of the country took Monday off for an extended New Years Holiday, but Taylor Decker and his classmates at Vandalia (Ohio) Butler High School were back at the grind of classes and therefore missing a lot of the college football games the rest of us enjoyed on television.
But that doesn't mean Decker was unaffected by the changes that took place with the Irish staff yesterday as his main recruiter Tim Hinton, and future position coach Ed Warinner, both left the Irish program.

?Sorry it?s been a hectic day,? Decker told Irisheyes.com by text message. ?I?ve not really talked to any media today, only coaches. I dropped a line on a text message to a few people, but before I do any phone interviews I want to find out some things.?

The things Decker is looking to do include talking with his high school coaches and parents about the changes in the staff. He knows coaches can come and go and his reason for picking Notre Dame was not only due to coaches. However, with his future position coach one of those on the move, Decker is looking for answers as to who he can expect to coach him in an Irish uniform

These coaches are worse than my wife when I fail to notice the new curtains. They get butt hurt and bad feelings because their all-star isn't getting love from the nearest top shelf program when all they really want is some national recognition for their program.

I'd like to see Decker in Columbus, but it is irritating to watch coaches direct these kids solely on emotion. When Nolan was at Troy, Brewer went to South Carolina and Dielman went to Indiana. The school was littered with talk about racism against white players at Ohio State and other unsubstantiated nonsense. All it really boiled down to is a lack of attention from the University and some hurt feelings.

Not following.

Recruiting is all about relationships and trust. If a coach is interested he should be calling a kid regularly to stay in touch.

Meyer is making Decker a priority and JT and co. did not. Simple as that.
