OL Michael Brewster (Official Thread)

I feel as though every time OSU plays an out-of-conference team, they know the exact playbook that the Buckeyes are running.

It's been said as much after a few of the games. Florida once again looked like they knew the play before the snap even occurred.

Oh well, spilled milk at this point. Clean it up and move on.

Talent on the OL is important obviously..but the good lines operate as a unit..with everyone on the same page and able to adjust together when they see something new. A lot of the OL line break-downs the last 10 years or so seemed to be missed assignments rather than being beat man on man(excepting Fla NC game). I hope the new group can develop a unit with an attitude..

Did you have JB Shugarts? He literally had false start penalties in 24 consecutive games.

While he had way too many, the 24 straight games thing isn't true. A list of his penalties, by game, can be found in his thread.

and I doubt they were first to pick it up. Remember Jerel Worthy of MSU? He jumped the snap about a half dozen times in the OSU-MSU game. I think I heard the announcers during that game say that he came from Huber Heights Wayne HS, too. So I thought at the time that he may have known Braxton so well as to know what his typical snap counts would be. Perhaps it was a combo of those two factors - Braxton and center's head bobs - that helped him live in the OSU backfield that day.

Kudos to the Gators for picking that little thing up on the film.

Senior Bowl: Three Ohio State players are expected to play in the Senior Bowl, according to someone with knowledge of the invites. Tackle Mike Adams, running back Dan Herron and center Mike Brewster should represent the Buckeyes in the most high-profile postseason all-star game, which allows players a week of practice in front of NFL talent evaluators.

In rankings of NFL prospects from NFLDraftScout.com, Adams was No. 51, Brewster No. 104, Posey No. 107 and Herron No. 125.

The Senior Bowl will be played on Jan. 28 in Mobile, Ala., at 4 p.m

Reports surfaced that Ohio State will be sending RB Dan Herron, LT Mike Adams, and C Mike Brewster to Mobile, Ala., later this month, as they had accepted invitations to the Senior Bowl. I have since spoken with Buckeye Sports Information Directors for football Jerry Emig. He had no knowledge of any of them accepting invites, but admitted that these are things he sometimes deals with on the back end. And to be honest, it's true. As a high-profile university?s sports information director your job is to deal with the tough stuff, not the nice invitation processes.

Mike Martin (DT/Michigan) and Mike Brewster (C/Ohio State) have had a terrific battle all afternoon. Martin fired off several snaps and took the advantage with his first step, but Brewster adjusted and out-positioned Martin toward the end of the drill. It's been fun to watch.

PFW comments on Brew- 1 minute mark....

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cP0F12Qwuco"]Will Wisconsin's Russell Wilson be successful in the NFL? - YouTube[/ame]

Ohio State C Mike Brewster was impressive in a pair of matchups with Michigan DT Mike Martin. Both reps were far more heated and intense than the typical one-on-one drills, which made for compelling viewing. Brewster showed finishing ability and a real tough streak Tuesday.

Over the last four seasons, Michigan defensive tackle Mike Martin and Ohio State center Mike Brewster played on opposite sides in possibly the greatest rivalry in college football. However, this week the defensive tackle from "the school up north" and the center from "Ohio" are playing for the same team, representing the North squad in the Senior Bowl. And while they'll wear the same uniforms this Saturday against the South team, that hasn't stopped these two from going at it once again in practice drills.

At 6-1, Martin is undersized height-wise, but he has a thick, compact build on his wrestler's frame. He fires off the snap with a relentless attitude and uses his low pad level and violent hands to tear through blockers.

Matched up against the 6-4 tall Brewster in one-on-one drills, Martin has done a nice job staying low to the ground and using his aggressive nature to rip past the Ohio State center. Brewster is technically-sound and uses body positioning to his advantage, but the former Buckeye pivot has struggled to keep Martin at bay through two practices.

Regardless of who got the better of whom, this match-up is about two competitors giving it all they got for the NFL scouts and decision-makers in attendance.

"He's one of my best competitors," said Brewster after practice on Tuesday. "If I'm not trying to kill him, then he's trying to kill me. I know what he's all about, he knows what I'm all about. I know he's going all out, I'm going all out, let the best man win."

Michigan-Ohio State rivalry heats up at Senior Bowl
By Simon Samano |
Published: January 24th, 2012

MOBILE, Ala. ? Teammates at the Senior Bowl certainly aren?t trying to rip each other?s heads off ? unless we?re talking about players from Ohio State and Michigan. Then it becomes a different story.

The 114-year old rivalry between the two schools found its way here front and center Tuesday, with Buckeyes center Mike Brewster and Wolverines defensive tackle Mike Martin refusing to back down from each other during contact drills.

?It?s always heated, but it?s fun. It?s good competition,? Martin said. ?We always go after each other, and he?s a good player. We?re both here at the Senior Bowl trying to show our stuff, so it?s great.?

If trying to impress NFL scouts and general managers wasn?t enough of an incentive, Brewster and Martin aren?t about to let one be outdone by the other.

It?s not that they hate each other. They just can?t ignore where they come from when they?re lined up across each other in the trenches.

?We?re definitely cool off the field,? Brewster said. ?He?s one of my best competitors. We?ve been going at it for four years. We know if we don?t bring it 100 percent, one is going to eat up the other one.?

Said Martin: ?It?s been a four-year war between us. Like I said, he?s a good player. We?ll both say the same thing about each other, but when we get out here, we?re out here for each other?s heads. You can?t ask for anything better than that when it comes to competition.?

Oh, this ought to be a fun one to watch all week.

Center Mike Brewster, meanwhile, "had trouble sinking his hips to anchor against inside rushers, and because he often played with his head down Brewster had trouble staying in front of defenders."

Mike Brewster, C, Ohio State, 6-4, 310, 5.25 40 time; projected late-round pick, priority free agent.

Brewster struggled badly in the first practice of the week, and it did not get any better after that. He was physically dominated at the point of attacked too easily. Bull rushers were able to drive him backward and defeat his blocks to pressure the quarterback far too often. He struggled to adjust and block well in space and too often ended up overextending and falling off his blocks. For a player with his national reputation, Brewster needs to really step up in Saturday?s game if he wants to make sure he gets drafted.

NFL combine: Adams, Brewster had divergent paths at Ohio State
By Bill Rabinowitz
The Columbus Dispatch Friday February 24, 2012

INDIANAPOLIS ? If you were to chart the trajectories of their Ohio State careers, Mike Adams? would look like a volatile stock, while Michael Brewster?s would resemble a treasury bond.

Both were highly touted offensive-line recruits when they became Buckeyes. Brewster became a starter at center in the middle of his freshman year and was a dependable cornerstone player his entire career.

Adams was suspended for two games in his sophomore year for violating team rules, rebounded to earn all-Big Ten honors as a junior and then became one of the players involved in the memorabilia scandal for selling his 2008 Big Ten championship ring.

But the left tackle played well in 2011 when reinstated after an NCAA-imposed five-game suspension, and his value is peaking. The Dublin Coffman graduate is projected to be a late first-round pick in April?s draft. Brewster is expected to be taken in the middle rounds.

?It?s just a blessing to even be in this position,? Adams said yesterday at the NFL combine. ?If my name is called in the first round, I can?t even explain how that would feel.?

by Matt Rybaltowski - Brewster would welcome chance to play with Hasselbeck
The Titans may be interested in Ohio State C Mike Brewster, if C Eugene Amano is moved to guard. Brewster is excited about the possibility of playing with a QB such as Matt Hasselbeck, who excels with pre-snap reads. ?That would be great,? Brewster said. ?I didn't have the luxury of having someone help me makes calls for four years.?

Brewster checks out fine

Ohio State center Michael Brewster missed Thursday?s media session because he was undergoing tests on his right shoulder.

Brewster sustained a torn labrum in high school that required surgery. But it did not cause any issues during his career at Ohio State and isn?t a problem now, he said.

The medical side of the combine isn?t fun, but Brewster said he has enjoyed the interviews with teams.

?I?m a communications major, so I like to communicate,? he said. ?It?s been awesome. I ran the show (calling blocking assignments) for four years. They were asking me about plays. One guy today was asking me all these blitz questions, and he goes, ?I?m not going to get you, am I?? I said, ?No, you?re not going to stump me.? ?

Brewster said he bench-pressed 225 pounds 29 times.

?I tested at 28 before,? he said. ?I was hoping I could pop off 30.?
