Meyer spoke to the media one last time before the holidays and the team departs for the Phoenix area.

Urban Meyer spoke with the gathered media at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center Thursday to talk about the forthcoming Battlefrog Fiesta Bowl against Notre Dame. Meyer dodged the usual opening statement and went straight into questions:

-- Meyer was asked about underclassmen potentially going pro and whether or not who knew exactly who is and isn't leaving: "I kind of do, but we're avoiding all that conversation until focus is on the bowl game."

-- Meyer confirmed that Ed Warinner will coach again from the coaches booth like he did in Ohio State's explosive win against Michigan. Whether or not it's the situation moving forward? "[For] this game, we will."

-- Meyer did not anticipate any future coaching attrition or changes to the staff but clarified that was as of now.

-- Meyer said there's only a few spots left in the current recruiting class so a lot of the recruiting they're working on is for 2017. In terms of potentially recruiting against outgoing defensive coordinator Chris Ash, he says that he asks his guys to be "extremely professional" and said that Ash has done that. "Chris has been great."

-- "Coach Schiano and I go back many, many years," the Ohio State coach said of the new Ohio State co-defensive coordinator. Meyer said he first met him when he was at Notre Dame and Schiano was with the Chicago Bears. Meyer joked both became head coaches very young. "Too young." Meyer added Schiano will not be coaching in the Fiesta Bowl as expected.

-- On having two defensive coordinators like the Buckeyes did with Luke Fickell and Chris Ash moving forward with Fickell and Schiano "I like to have two people in that room. I don't believe in dictatorships."

-- Meyer said he went down and watched Brian Kelly coach practice a few times at the University of Cincinnati. Stated that what Kelly did caught his eye at Grand Valley State and Central Michigan.

-- On the legacy of sometime embattled quarterback Cardale Jones "Well he's a national champion, he's undefeated as a starter ... I love Cardale, I'm very much appreciative of everything he does." Ohio State SID Jerry Emig joked they don't have many unbeaten with at least 10 starts. "We've got a lot that are 2-0". Meyer kidded around about former Buckeye backup Kenny Guiton. "Smooth jazz made its way into the press conference"

-- Meyer said the Michigan game is a great indicator of what kind of human beings they have on the team. In terms of heading into the Notre Dame game, "I anticipate we play our tails off."

-- On whether or not starting quarterback J.T. Barrett had declined at all this season vs. last, "I haven't evaluated that. I think his injury did set him out of spring practice. He was not J.T. of himself over the summer and then obviously the dual situation we were playing with ... I think next year I'd anticipate a nice gradual incline."

-- Meyer said Tommy Schutt hurt his foot but he's not sure how bad. "We've got depth issues inside right now on defense."

-- Meyer was asked about DeShone Kizer, Notre Dame's quarterback and former Ohio State recruiting target. "We were real close [to pulling the trigger there]." "He's a big dude who throws well and runs well. He's done a real nice job for them."
