Ohio State recruiting: State Secrets - Jaylen Kelly-Powell high on OSU after Schiano hire

One of the country's best defensive backs likes what OSU is offering with the hire of Greg Schiano.
As we move closer to the Christmas holiday, information might dwindle down. Coaches and players are with their families and may be waiting until after December 25 to gear up for the home stretch to National Signing Day in February. However, news isn't completely dead on the recruiting trail.
4-star happy with Schiano hire
Newly appointed defensive coordinator Greg Schiano is beginning to make his presence felt with the 2017 class as Jaylen Kelly-Powell, a cornerback from Michigan, recently praised this hire by Ohio State. According to reports, Kelly-Powell likes the man-to-man scheme that Schiano plays with and because of it, the Buckeyes are in a good position to potentially land the four-star defensive back.
Kelly-Powell stands an even 6'0 and weighs 183 pounds. He has great speed and is being recruited as both a corner and a safety. Kelly-Powell currently holds 26 offers, but it looks as if Michigan holds a slight edge in his current recruitment. The defensive back prospect plays his high school ball at Cass Tech in Detroit, a school that Urban Meyer has thrived at since his time in Columbus. Schiano is being assisted by Kerry Coombs in this recruitment and Ohio State is in as good as a position as anyone at this point. There's a long way to go in this one. Kelly-Powell has already visited Columbus, but is looking to make a return trip down the road.

OSU still chasing Big Three
Though it's still looking like a long shot, Ohio State is still chasing, and will continue to chase, two of the top prospects in America: wide receiver Nate Craig-Myers and defensive tackle Rashan Gary. Nate Craig-Myers still has a few official visits to take, but it has still not yet been determined which schools he will elect to check out. If the Buckeyes are able to flip Dwayne Haskins and get a commitment from him at the Under Armour game, it could bode well for the Buckeyes and Craig-Myers. Still, Ohio State needs a visit from the five-star WR if they are to have any kind of chance.
On the other side of the ball, Rashan Gary to Ohio State has been trending up as of late, though still there is a lot of ground to make up. Greg Schiano, having many ties to the East Coast, could be playing a factor into this recruitment. Gary, Craig-Myers, and Haskins will all be in Florida for the Under Armour practices and game. With the other Buckeye commits there, there's a chance that some connections are made and Ohio State can make some noise with these three prospects.
