Standout DB Damar Hamlin put OSU in his top four. Can the Buckeyes land him?
Putting the finishing touches on the 2016 recruiting class is becoming clearer and clearer the closer we get to February. Obviously everyone is sitting and waiting to see what Kareem Walker will do after Antonio Williams committed over the weekend at the running back position.
As for wide receiver, the Buckeyes are still looking to add a stud, but it needs to be the right prospect. Binjimen Victor was in Columbus over the weekend and things look to be trending up for the Florida wideout. Ohio State seems like the leader for Victor at the moment and they will definitely leave room for him in case he eventually signs with OSU. This year's class is already loaded and the coaching staff is looking to add even more.
OSU in Hamlin's top four
As for defensive backs, there's still a few on Ohio State's radar who are highly rated and who the Buckeyes feel good about. One of them is Pennsylvania prospect Damar Hamlin. Hamlin released his final four on Tuesday. Also on the list were Notre Dame, Penn State, and Pittsburgh. As far as Ohio State goes, Hamlin has been to Columbus a handful of times, the last being over the summer at Friday Night Lights. He also has another visit planned for the weekend the Buckeyes take on Michigan State.
According to 247Sports, Ohio State is the crystal ball leader, but they are followed closely by Penn State. Hamlin stands at 6'1 and weighs 175 pounds. He's the number 14 rated cornerback in the country, while also being the number three rated player in the state of Pennsylvania. Holding 32 total offers, Hamlin has always been a guy that the Ohio State coaching staff has coveted, and they've put the full-court press on him throughout the last couple of years. It'll be a battle to take him out of state, but it's telling how many times he's been to Columbus within the last year. Watch for the Pitt Panthers to make a another strong run at him before it's all said and done, but right now the Buckeyes have to feel good about where they're sitting.
Also, remember that Ohio State is sitting well with fellow defensive back Jordan Fuller from New Jersey. It isn't crazy to think that the Buckeyes could land both, but landing at least one looks like a given at this point. Fuller will be looking to use one of his official visits to Columbus at some point this fall.
