The scoop from Brown’s latest unofficial visit with Ohio State.
Watching Ohio State on Saturday, it was pretty clear that the receivers are once again one of the top units in the country. An offensive attack that boasts the likes of Emeka Egbuka and Jeremiah Smith, this is just the next wave of talent that the Buckeyes are able to field after several years in a row of extremely high-level play.
Position coach Brian Hartline has stockpiled incredible results over the years of his tenure to build quite the track record, and though the focus is prioritized right now on the current roster, the recruiting efforts as you know never stop in Columbus.
This past weekend being the latest opportunity to host many of Ohio State’s top targets both in-state and from around the country, recruits seeing the domination of Iowa has to speak volumes to what this program is chasing this year. Of course with the win on Saturday, maybe nothing was quite as impressive as Hartline’s unit, who recorded four touchdowns on the backs of the aforementioned Egbuka and Smith.
Several names are worth mentioning in regards to who was on campus on Saturday, but sticking with the receiver position, one notable prospect who made the short trek to Columbus from the Dayton area was none other than 2027 star receiver target, Jamier Brown.
The No. 6 player nationally and second best receiver in the class per the 247Sports Composite, getting the Huber Heights Wayne product on campus is always a win, but after a performance like that from his position, you’d have to think he came away fairly impressed with what he saw.
Following his Saturday visit to Ohio Stadium, we were able to catch up with Brown and get just a few of his thoughts on the Buckeyes and how his visit went...
Land-Grant Holy Land: Following your visit, what was your favorite part of being on campus for the Iowa game this past Saturday?
Brown: “My favorite part of the visit was watching the game. Ohio State had a slow start, but came out in the second half strong and took over to win the game.”
LGHL: Being from the same program, does the history of Wayne High School & Ohio State mean anything special to you with guys like Braxton Miller, Marcus Freeman, BB Landers, etc.?
Brown: “It means a lot. I got to talk to Braxton Miller today on the visit and take a picture with him so that was a good thing for me.”
LGHL: Game days are busy for the staff. Were you able to talk to Coach Hartline at all during your visit?
Brown: “Yes. I was able to talk to him a couple of times. I was happy to be there and he was happy I was able to see what it’s like to see Ohio State play.”
LGHL: What do you think is the best part of your game and does that fall in line with what Ohio State has said about you?
Brown: “The best part of my game is my hands and speed. Those two do fall in line with what Ohio State has said.”
LGHL: Do you have any plans to see Ohio State again later this year?
Brown: “Yes. I just plan on coming back to Ohio State any time I am able to.”
Ohio is always loaded with talent, but when you look at the current 2027 class and see an in-state player at the position you have developed better than arguably anyone else in the country the last several seasons, you have to like the chances of the Buckeyes being able to keep the next in line at home.
Not a done deal by any means, it still means something to see Brown taking photos with former Wayne Warriors like former OSU quarterback/wide receiver Braxton Miller and current OSU offensive lineman Josh Padilla. Add that to Braxton’s induction into Ohio State’s Hall of Fame on Saturday, and that visit date seems rather thought out.
The Buckeyes have a lot going for them, and if they want to continue landing elite receiver targets, they’ll have to look no further than at the prep program just over an hour down the road that has given them some of their more notable players in the last couple decades. Brown could very well be next, and we thank him for his time answering our few questions!
