The Buckeyes are top-5 in the country on both sides of the football.
We are just about three weeks away from the highly anticipated release of EA SPORTS College Football 25, the first college football video game since NCAA 14 came out on July 9, 2013. With the big day inching closer, EA SPORTS has begun to release some additional specifics about the game, including top stadium atmospheres and the top-ranked offenses and defenses.
On Tuesday, they revealed the top 10 toughest places to play. Somewhat surprisingly, Ohio State was featured highly, with Ohio Stadium coming in as the No. 4 toughest place to play, trailing only Texas A&M’s Kyle Field, Alabama’s Bryant-Denny Stadium and LSU’s Tiger Stadium.
“The Development Team worked to compile a list of the Top 25 Toughest Places to Play, factoring in historical stats such as home winning %, home game attendance, active home winning streaks, team prestige, and more.” said EA SPORTS in a release.
According to EA SPORTS, having the home field advantage could result in the away team having to contend with, “Audio and in-game modifiers such as blurred routes, incorrect play art, confidence and composure affects, and screen shaking.”
On Thursday, the company went even further in-depth, releasing the game’s top offenses and defenses. With the offensive ratings coming out first, Ohio State came in at No. 5 with an 89 overall defense. Georgia will begin the year with the No. 1 ranked offense at 94 overall, followed by Oregon (94), Alabama (91) and Texas (91).
“The Development Team meticulously examined hundreds of thousands of data points to arrive at our team power rankings.” said EA SPORTS. “With help from our friends at Pro Football Focus (PFF), the team analyzed all 134 rosters, thousands of players, years worth of game film, and mountains of stats, ultimately arriving at our Team Power Rankings.”
Of note, these rankings are subject to change in future updates, and much like team and roster updates in the Madden football franchise, the real life team performance will dictate teams getting better or worse in the game. If Ryan Day’s offense plays well under new offensive coordinator Chip Kelly, expect that rating to rival that of the Bulldogs and the Ducks.
Later on Thursday, EA SPORTS released the defensive ratings, where Ohio State unsurprisingly came in as the No. 1 defense in the country at an impressive 96 overall. Behind them is Georgia (94), then five teams all tied at 90 overall — Oregon, Alabama, Clemson, Notre Dame and Michigan.
Just like everything else, these ratings are subject to change based on real life performances. Ohio State’s defense should be a fun one both to watch in real life and to play with in the video game, with a loaded secondary that added Caleb Downs in the offseason and a defensive front sporting a pair of former five-star defensive ends in Jack Sawyer and J.T Tuimoloau, not to mention athletes like Sonny Styles and CJ Hicks in the middle of it all.
The overall team power rankings are scheduled to release on Friday. The game will be released worldwide on July 19.
