Ohio State punter Cam Johnston named Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year

The Aussie is the first player from Ohio State to win the Big Ten award.
Ohio State senior punter Cam Johnston has been name the Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year for the Big Ten Conference. The native Australian has been a big help to a struggling offense this season, with the ability to pin teams back to the 1-yard line consistently and often leading the conference in punting distance and averages.
He leads the Big Ten in 2016 for longest punt (70 yards) against Wisconsin -- narrowly missing his career long (73 yards) from the 2014 national championship season. In addition to holding the conference’s longest punt of the season, Johnston also claims the top two spots for punting average in 2016 against Wisconsin (53.8 yards) and Tulsa (51.2 yards).
In his four years at Ohio State, the red-head has punted for 9,135 yards on 204 attempts. His senior campaign concluded with 2,266 punting yards despite having two games (Rutgers and Nebraska) in which he and his golden foot weren’t needed.
The Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year award was first presented in 2011, and is named in honor of Illinois' Dwight Eddleman and Michigan State's Brandon Fields. Johnston is the first player from Ohio State to win this award.
Last year’s winner was the late-Sam Foltz, who was honored by Ohio State and Johnston — who presented Foltz’ parents with a Buckeye helmet adorned with 27 leaf stickers — in this year’s game against Nebraska.
