The Buckeyes’ next commit in the 2025 class may come soon after offering in-state offensive lineman.
It feels like this has been a long time coming, but 2025 in-state Ohio prospect Jake Cook finally has the Ohio State offer he’s been waiting for.
A product of nearby Westerville North, Cook is no stranger to Ohio State’s coaching staff, as he’s been a name that has taken every opportunity to be noticed by the Buckeyes. Whether it be multiple camp dates and working out for Justin Frye, Cook hasn’t shied away from putting in the work to earn an Ohio State offer, and now he’s done just that.
The No. 616 player nationally and the No. 39 IOL in the 2025 class per the 247Sports Composite, Cook had been committed to Louisville since February. but re-opened his recruitment on Tuesday. A telling sign that this could be coming, on Wednesday the official offer was extended when he took to his social media account to share the latest news that Ohio State was now in the fold.
Going even further and sharing that this weekend would be his official visit with Ohio State, it’s really looking like he will be the next in line to commit to the Buckeyes and their 2025 class, potentially as soon as this weekend gets here.
With how important the offensive line is in every cycle, getting Cook into the fold will be a solid addition for Frye in 2025, but there’s plenty of work still to be done. A class that needs at least four and likely five guys committed, Frye has had plenty of effort in getting top targets to campus, but it’s time he starts seeing those efforts pay off.
Barring anything crazy, Cook seems destined to be the next commit for the top-ranked Ohio State class, and he’d be a welcomed one at that.
Ohio State has sent out their fair share of offers to 2026 quarterbacks over the last couple months, and while they’re still in the running for several top targets, there have been a few that have come off the board after making commitments elsewhere.
Knowing the program is in great shape thanks to the elite depth already in Columbus and on the way with the 2025 class, the Buckeyes still want to bring in another top signal caller in the next cycle. With Ryan Day and Chip Kelly calling the shots, odds are they will once again bring in one of the better position players the country has to offer as they tend to do.
On Wednesday, 2026 target Jaden O’Neal made headlines when he named a top-10 list of schools he is still considering before shutting his recruitment down. The No. 64 player nationally and the 6th best QB in the class per the 247Sports Composite, O’Neal has Arizona State, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Washington and Ohio State in the running for his services.
Cutting it down to 10 from his 30 offers shows he is getting more serious on where he will end up, but right now the 247Sports Crystal Ball has six predictions — all in favor of Oklahoma. Plenty of time to go in any 2026 recruitment, and the Buckeyes will be patient, but will also turn up the heat when needed in order to land their guy.
The leader of this Ohio State class, seeing St. Clair continue his success not only shows the Buckeyes they’re getting the right guy, but also appeals to other top offensive players around the country Ohio State is still after who want to play with a top quarterback.
