Ohio State Men's Tennis (2014/2019/2024 ITA Indoor National Champs, 17 Straight B1G Titles)

The Livestats updates seem to be cycling through painfully slow.
Rght now #1 Allare and Kobelt are down 7-5
#2 Uzawa and Buchanan are up 7-2.
Looks like the doubles point could come down to #3 Rola and Novak
They are up early 5-2!
Go Bucks!

Rola with a persuasive 2nd set gets the Buckeyes 2nd point on the scoreboard 6-3, 6-0.
Matt Allare finishes off his #4 opponent 6-3, 6-4 for the 3rd OSU tally.
McCarthy is looking strong to close out the match-clinching 4th point.

McCarthy closes out the 4th point at #5 singles securing the buckeye victory and extending the OSU consecutive home winning streak to 124!

Chase Buchanan is close to finishing off #2 Steven Havens.
Balazs Novak after a typically slow start is fighting back in the 2nd to secure another Buckeye Point at #6.
Ilie Van Engelen dropped his match to a very experienced and tough #3 Daniel Stahl.

i hate 3rd set super tiebreaks  just played one in a 4.0 USTA match, we split sets 6-4, 3-6 (1 break of serve in each set) then I lose 10-1 in the tiebreak :(

Kind of like Novak today only he dropped his 10-7 :(

Final from the stick 5-2 for the good guys.:)

been so busy lately keep forgetting to check on the team....do they look like they could make another run in the NCAA tournys?

Good question, BN24 you know how to trigger my OCD.
The last five years, Buckeyes have won the Big Ten regular season title, and then the Big Ten tournament, and received some strong considerations and seeding to make a deep run in the tourney.
Past expectations soared with early successes but 4 out of 5 years the Bucks ran into a hot team in the quarters, and stumbled.
I believe they have a bit better lineup this year. I like the top two Blaz Rola, Chase Buchanan. They are both ranked in the top 12 of all NCAA single's players.
Only Virginia has two players ranked as high as OSU's pair. UVA is properly ranked #1 in the ITA. They are undefeated because they are strong up and down the lineup, no weaknesses whatsoever. With that said, I have noticed lately that VA is for some reason without one of their better players, Jarmere Jenkins, who was missing from the lineup last week. Makes me wonder what happened. UVA however, is still by consensus the top team in tennis right now.
USC is probably closer behind UVa although they have been known to get loose at certain times and underperform like they did in Washington at the ITA indoors. It seems like they are back on track right now and just dominating opponents.

About the #2 ranked Bucks, . . .
There are actually 7 Buckeyes ranked in the top 125 of the ITA computers, which is more than any other team in the country. The top 2 Rola and Buchanan are solid, consistent and better or on par with any other elite players, but the depth and experience at the bottom of the lineup is what sets the Buckeyes apart. Allare, Novak and McCarthy are the best 4,5,6 in the country. For the Buckeyes to make a deep run this year they will need to earn a favorable seed and avoid a hot team.
If the season ended today they would be seeded #2. If they can hold on to the #2 seed or even if they dropped to a #3 seed they would avoid UVA until the final and probably avoid USC until the semifinal. Last year they were a #4 seed and lost to eventual champion USC #5 seed in the quarters.
So for 2011, Uva, USC and OSU are the three outstanding squads!
If I were BB73, I would offer something that looks like these odds on which team would be crowned National Champion in May:

3-2 Virginia.
3-1 USC
4-1 tOSU
10-1 Tennessee
10-1 Texas A& M
15-1 Georgia
5-1 field

So to answer your question. . .

In my humble IMO, this team is clearly poised to make a strong and deep run in the NCAA tournament in May.

I especially like and get excited about their chances this year to win it all!

Go Bucks!
