In the end, the shooting of the three stars for the tenth ranked Virginia Cavaliers were the difference as the Buckeyes drop a heart-breaker at home 64 to 58.

The Buckeyes started their scoring off by answering a three by Malcolm Brogdon with a two by Keita Bates-Diop and sent a message they weren’t intimidated by the Cavaliers.

The back and forth between the two teams finished the first half with the Cavs only up two 26 to 24. The trio of Loving, Tate and Bates-Diop went toe-to-toe with Brogdon, Gill and Thompson.

The second half saw much of the same between the two teams and the Buckeyes showed flashes of being able to play with anyone in the nation and took the lead during a late stretch up 42-40 but couldn’t capitalize on the momentum.

As the Buckeyes traded shots late and made a push to tie the ballgame, they couldn’t catch a break as the Cavaliers shot well from the free throw line.
