Four-star 2025 DL Myron Charles | Andrew Ivins, 247Sports

The Buckeyes are also keeping an eye on a 2026 in-state wide receiver.

All told it has been a quiet holiday weekend for Ohio State recruiting — at least by the Buckeyes’ standards. That being said, while everyone else was off enjoying the beach and the barbecue, the program still found a way to get its name into some recruiting headlines.

On Sunday, the Ohio State coaching staff and position coach Larry Johnson learned they have made the cut for four-star 2025 defensive lineman Myron Charles. The Florida native has cut his list down from over 30 offers to just six schools, with the Buckeyes among the contenders alongside Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Texas and Miami.

Standing at 6-foot-4, 295 pounds, Charles currently ranks as the No. 13 DL and No. 123 prospect nationally, per the 247Sports Composite. Likely projecting as an interior lineman at the next level, Charles has experience working out of various alignments at the prep level, and has good flexibility and athleticism for his size. According to Andrew Ivins of 247Sports, Charles will likely need some time to develop further in order to become an impact player in the Power Four, as he is still somewhat raw from a technical standpoint.

Ohio State faces an uphill battle if they are to sway Charles up North, as the D-lineman seems to favor the in-state schools at this juncture. The junior has official visits set with Florida (May 31), Miami (June 14) and Florida State (June 21), and it is the Seminoles who are viewed as the current favorite with the lone Crystal Ball in their favor. The Buckeyes will almost certainly need to get Charles on campus for an OV if they want to have a shot in this race.

As things stand, Ohio State has two defensive linemen committed in 2025 in four-stars London Merritt and Zahir Mathis, but coach LJ will need to add several more guys to the room in this cycle with Jack Sawyer, J.T. Tuimoloau and Tyleik Williams all set to go pro after this season. Charles remains an option up the middle, while other potential DL prospects the Buckeyes are chasing include Damien Shanklin, Justin Hill, Mariyon Dye and Zion Grady, among others.

Quick Hits

  • Ohio State always makes sure to do its due diligence when it comes to in-state prospects, and there is no better evaluator and developer of talent than Brian Hartline. The Buckeyes are bringing those two factors together as they keep a close eye on 2026 wide receiver Seth Elchert. While Ohio State has not yet offered the 6-foot-3 pass-catcher, Hartline has invited the Liberty Benton product to camp at the school this summer on June 11. Elchert, who is also a varsity starter on both the baseball and basketball teams, caught 74 passes for over 1,000 yards and 12 TDs as a sophomore.
  • Late last week, Ohio State extended an offer to 2026 running back Derrek Cooper. A teammate of OSU five-star freshman receiver Jeremiah Smith at Chaminade-Madonna Prep in Florida, Cooper ranks as the No. 7 ATH and No. 78 player nationally per the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-1 tailback is starting to see a real uptick in his recruitment, with Auburn, LSU, Miami and now Ohio State all offering since the start of March.

  • An Ohio State defensive back target committed elsewhere over the weekend, with four-star corner Mark Zackery announcing his pledge to Notre Dame on Saturday. The Buckeyes had made the Indiana native’s top 10 back in January, but were outside his top four of Cincinnati, Florida, Michigan and Notre Dame heading into his decision. Zackery is the No. 15 CB and No. 135 overall player per the 247Sports Composite.

The 6’0 165 CB from Indianapolis, IN chose the Fighting Irish over Florida, Michigan, & Cincinnati
