The Buckeyes continue to work toward the future

Whether it’s 2016 recruiting class members losing their "black stripes" and becoming official members of the Ohio State football program or the highlight videos released by the Buckeye media team, the 2016 edition of fall camp is coming close to an end. The season is nearing with each passing day and the Buckeye football team and staff seem as hungry as ever for the season to get under way.

Herron Jr. lands OSU offer

Ohio State has been incredible when it comes to recruiting defensive end prospects out of high school. Whether it's NFL product Joey Bosa, younger brother and current Buckeye Nick Bosa or Sam Hubbard, there is no shortage of talent at the defensive end position in Columbus. Yesterday, the Ohio State staff looked to continue the trend of recruiting high profile defensive ends by extending a new offer to a youngster with three prep seasons still to be played.

Stephen Herron Jr. (Louisville, KY / Trinity) announced via his Twitter account yesterday that the Buckeyes were the latest to throw their hat into the ring.

Truly blessed to have been offered by THE Ohio State University!! ⚪️#GoBuckeyes #OSU @Ant_Coughlan @OhioStateFB pic.twitter.com/6zibrODg5N

— Stephen Herron, Jr (@stephenherron_) August 18, 2016

A sophomore to be, Herron already has incredible size at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds. While he doesn't yet own a 247sports recruit ranking, the 2019 defensive end will clearly be a top recruit in the country when those rankings are made available.

Herron has five offers already, including home state programs Louisville and Kentucky. The Buckeyes not only have to contend with Bluegrass programs, but fellow Big Ten institution Indiana joined in on the fray – as did the University of Tennessee.

With his recent offer, look for other top programs around the country to take notice and begin to chase after Herron. Louisville has to be an early leader being so close to Herron's home, but an Ohio State offer certainly has to be in a league of its own.

Lindsey and OSU trending?

We are well under two weeks away from the excitement when Tyjon Lindsey (Las Vegas, NV / Bishop Gorman) makes his final decision on where he will play his college football. Lindsey, expected to head to Columbus and complete the trio of Bishop Gorman Buckeyes, still has time before his decision date.

However, signs continue to trend upwards for Urban Meyer and Ohio State's 2017 recruiting class. Yesterday, the infamous 247sports crystal ball graph received two more predictions in favor of the Buckeyes in terms of Tyjon Lindsey eventual landing spot.

One of the predictions happened to come from a Nebraska recruiting insider. The Cornhuskers, a competitor and maybe biggest threat to Ohio State for Lindsey seem to also believe that it's the Buckeyes who will win out in the end. If so, you can lock it down for the 2017 recruiting class to be one of the more historical classes in Urban Meyer's career.

Blue sets visit dates for fall

L'Christian "Blue" Smith (Huber Heights, OH / Wayne High School) is becoming a household name in Ohio State recruiting. Ohio's top receiver in 2018 and the nation's top athlete according to rivals.com announced yesterday via his Twitter account his plans for the fall and who he will be visiting. Making the list not once, but twice, Ohio State will continue to host the stud athlete from just an hour away for the home opener and against Michigan.

With "Blue" making it to campus several times already, Ohio State has to feel good for where they are currently sitting for Smith. However, if Ohio State really wants to make a statement with Smith, they may have to extend an offer to fellow Wayne Warrior teammate, Alex Reigelsperger who would love nothing more than to be a "package deal" with his good friend. One thing is for sure: The Wayne to Ohio State connection could be in for another great relationship in 2018.
