Ohio State in the mix for a 4-star WR in the 2020 class

The Buckeyes or Missouri Tigers will be choice for Marcus Washington.
On the first day of the quiet period, things seemed to be just that. However, late Wednesday evening, things took a sudden turn—and in a good way.
The Ohio State Buckeyes picked up their sixth commitment in the 2020 class, as running back Darvon Hubbard (Scottsdale, AZ / Chaparral) announced that he was committing to the Scarlet and Gray. If his high school seems familiar, then you’re right: he’s teammates with another 2020 commit. Quarterback Jack Miller committed to the Bucks not too long ago, and it’s been noted that he was trying to recruit others to join him in Columbus. That seemed to have worked out, as Hubbard is coming along to Ohio State, too.
Our own Patrick Mayhorn wrote up a scouting report on the latest Buckeye commitment. With Hubbard now in the fold, OSU has the best ‘20 class right now in the Big Ten, and the second best in the country. If Urban Meyer and the rest of the staff can keep up the tempo on the recruiting trail, then it’s completely reasonable to believe that they’ll pass Miami (FL) for the best class in the 2020 cycle.
But the commitment of Hubbard wasn’t the only good news Meyer and the Bucks got on Wednesday. Earlier in the day, a top prospect announced that he’s making his commitment decision on Aug. 7—and OSU is one of two schools in the mix.
Zone 6 addition?
Wide receiver Marcus Washington (Saint Louis, MO / Trinity Catholic) announced on Twitter that his Aug. 7 commitment will come down to either Ohio State or Missouri.
A member of the 2019 class, Washington is a four-star prospect; additionally, he’s the third best player in the state of Missouri and is the 26th best WR in the entire class.
Over 30 schools made offers to the Saint Louis native, including the likes of Texas, Georgia and Alabama. However, the Buckeyes and Tigers are the last two teams standing. But, with the recent firing of Zach Smith, that could have the potential to shake things up in Washington’s recruitment.
Ohio State was pegged as a big favorite to land Washington, but a crystal ball projection casted on Wednesday went in favor of the SEC school. Granted, it’s just one vote out of 14 that puts Mizzou as the favorite, but it does give a little insight to how the recruiting situation is going for Washington.
However, Ohio State will have a shortage of wide outs in the near future. With graduates and early NFL Draft declarations likely, there will be room for the stars of tomorrow to see time on the field. With the track record Meyer and OSU have at WR, it really doesn’t matter who the position coach is, as the conditioning and overall management of the team is top flight.
At 6-foot-2, 193 pounds, Washington can make the leaping plays over defenders for the catch. He was able to make big plays for Trinity Catholic, and that helped punch his ticket to Nike’s The Opening camp back in June.
