Ohio State Tabbed 14th by Collegiate Baseball - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State baseball team is ranked 14th nationally heading into the 2010 campaign, Collegiate Baseball Newspaper announced Monday.

The Buckeyes are the highest-ranked Big Ten team ahead of Minnesota (30th), Michigan (RV) and Illinois (RV). Two other Ohio State opponents, Louisville (19th) and Tennessee (RV) are also mentioned in the rankings.

Last week, the Buckeyes were ranked 24th in the PING! Baseball Preseason Top 30 poll.

Ohio State opens up the season Feb. 19 at North Florida.
Ohio State Ranked 24th in PING! Baseball Poll - The Ohio State Buckeyes Official Athletics Site - OhioStateBuckeyes.com

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State baseball team is ranked 24th nationally in the PING! Baseball Preseason Top 30 poll. PING! is presenting its Top 30 poll over the course of three days, with rankings 11-20 to be revealed later today and 1-10 Friday.

Here is some of what PING! Baseball - click "PING!" at the top of this page to access its web site - has to say about the 2010 Buckeyes:

"...The Buckeyes made it to the Series three times in the 60's (including winning the title in '66), but haven't visited since. This year's team is hoping to end that streak and is in good position to do so. Dan Burkhart (.354, 10 HR, 62 RBI) will be looking to parlay last season's success with a fine Cape showing to lead the offense, which returns almost its entire startling lineup. Alex Wimmers (9-2, 3.27, 136 Ks in 104.2 IP) is a dandy of a Friday night starter, but the rest of the arms will have to turn it up a notch if the team is going to make it out of Regionals."

Burkhart and Wimmers were each in the news Wednesday. The pair were selected second-team preseason All-Americans by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association of America.

Maybe this is the year that Coach Todd breaks through and gets the baseball Bucks to the College World Series. He's been close several times, but just a 5th starter away from getting there (or a timely hit, or stolen base, etc). Looks like the 'star power' is also present on the team.

Hope that they do well. For my information, are they the highest 'cold weather' team ranked? And/or the highest ranked team north of the Mason Dixon line?

Thanks, and let's go Bucks.

22. Ohio State – 2009 record: 42-19
The Buckeyes have high expectations. They welcome back one of the nation’s better offensive lineups, but have some questions on the mound outside Alex Wimmers.

sweet! congrats on the pre-season love.

hope you guys have a good year.
somehow, this site has made me a closet Buckeye fan (no, y'all have no shot a jumping LSU in my fandom).

I'm more confident heading into this season than I was last year.
But it is always tough to repeat.
I felt like our '98 team was every bit as good (maybe even better) than our '96 and '97 teams, but they fell short of the title game.

Can't wait for the season to start, and we get some threads going discussing our teams.

Louisiana State will be tough. I would not be surprised to see them defend their title with another one this year. OSU has got to get some help from the other pitchers to go anywhere. Here's hoping they do.
