Ohio State appears to ‘stand out’ for five-star safety

A top recruit in 2018 ranks the Buckeyes high on his list.
Ohio State is entering a bye week following a terrific win this past weekend. While the players will have some time off, the Buckeye coaching staff is using this time to recruit. It is this dedication that has kept this program among the elites year after year.
Five-star S is big on the Buckeyes
With limited space in the 2017 recruiting class, Ohio State has started working on next year’s class. One of the prospects the Buckeyes seem to be most interested in is five-star safety, Jaiden Woodbey (Upland, CA / St. John Bosco).
Woodbey is regarded as one of the best players in his class, currently 247Sports has him listed at No. 26 overall. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound safety holds nearly 20 scholarship offers and that number will only increase in the next year.
Fortunately for the Buckeyes, Adam Gorney of Rivals.com reported Monday, that both Ohio State and LSU are the two programs “standing out most” to him right now.

USC and Washington are also looked at as potential landing spots for the elite prospect.
Buckeyes building relationship with four-star WR
Ohio State has done a great job at bringing in blue-chip prospects at the wide receiver position of late. With top-five WRs Trevon Grimes (Fort Lauderdale, FL / St. Thomas Aquinas) and Tyjon Lindsey (Las Vegas, NV / Bishop Gorman) committed to the 2017 class, it seems the Buckeyes may have found a WR for 2018.
Brennan Eagles (Houston, TX / Alief Taylor) is a rather new name to the college football recruiting landscape. He emerged during spring and summer camps which led to scholarship offers from some of the country’s top programs, including the like of USC, Michigan State, Houston, Alabama and Texas.
While he hasn’t received an official scholarship offer from Ohio State yet, it seems the Buckeyes are still showing interest in the four-star prospect. Eagles spoke to Nick Krueger of RIvals.com over the weekend and told him that he has been building a relationship with Ohio State.
Eagles is a tall receiver but is lanky in size. He stands at 6-foot-4 and weighs 202 pounds. He is deceivingly quick on the football field and possesses the athleticism to jump up and make impressive catches. With more than a year left of high school football remaining, he has plenty of time to put on weight and become an elite red zone target.
Look for the Buckeyes to continue to show interest in Eagles and if the continue to like what they see, expect an offer sooner rather than later.
Buckeye Basketball busy recruiting
The Ohio State basketball coaching staff is busy on the recruiting trail as well. Andrew Slater of 247Sports reported that the Buckeyes visited four-star small forward Nojel Eastern (Evanston, IL / Evanston Township).

Eastern is one of 247Sports top 70 players of the 2017 class and is seen as the third best player in the state of Illinois. Combined with 2017 center commit Kaleb Wesson (Westerville, OH / Westerville South), the Buckeyes would have a promising front court with the addition of Eastern.
Unfortunately for the Buckeyes, Michigan State is the favorite to land the 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward – and he is set to visit the school this weekend. However, there is still plenty of time for Matta and the Buckeyes to win him over.
Matta and the Buckeyes weren’t finished yet, though. Zach Fleer reported late Monday afternoon that the coaching staff would be attending Pickerington Central’s game Monday night to watch a couple of promising, young talents from Columbus in Jeremiah Francis and Sterling Manley.
Ohio State and Georgetown will be in at Pickerington Central tonight to evaluate '17 PF/C Sterling Manley.

Ohio State will also be evaluating '19 Pickerington Central PG Jeremiah Francis. Buckeyes have been in on Francis for years.

Francis, a three-star point guard, is the No. 2 overall player in the state of Ohio for the 2019 recruiting class. The Buckeyes are currently seen as the favorites to land him, as Fleer notes the school has been interested in him for years. However, the school is currently competing with West Virginia, Ohio University and Texas for his commitment.
Francis’ teammate Manley is a member of the 2017 recruiting class and has offers from programs such as West Virginia, Xavier, Creighton, Wisconsin, Nebraska and Pitt.
