Ohio State’s 2019 class gets a boost without another commit

The Buckeyes’ 2019 class continues to see its stock rise.
Even if it is only July, and it seems that football is way in the future, at Ohio State, there is always something going on. With Big Ten Media days coming soon we know that the season is approaching quickly. Fall camp is set to start soon after Big Ten Media days, and Buckeye Nation is gearing up for the highly anticipated 2018 season. Until then, the staff has the plate full with not only the team’s development, but also recruiting. That’s never going to change as long as Meyer and his staff are at the helm of the Buckeye program. He’s made it more than clear year after year that if you can’t recruit, you can’t coach at Ohio State. Fortunately for fans, this staff has no problem with recruiting as they continue to be one of the best recruiting programs in the country.
Go ahead and add that 5th star big fella
The offensive line and more specifically the center position at Ohio State has seen some serious success in the past few seasons. With NFL teams drafting guys such as Pat Elflein and Billy Price who both are not only back-to-back first round draft picks, but also back-to-back Rimington Trophy award winners, the Buckeyes have more examples than just these two to make a serious recruiting pitch and it’s paid off big time for Meyer and company. In the 2019 class, no recruit may be more impressive than Georgia native, Harry Miller. A monster sized prospect, at 6-foot-4, 310 pounds, Harry with his stature alone would turn some heads. Add that to the fact that he may be the best recruit you could get means Ohio State struck gold when they landed Harry. A class valedictorian, Miller is a prized recruit both on and off the field.
With an impressive camp at Nike’s “The Opening” in Texas recently, Miller saw his ranking continue to rise. When he committed to Ohio State on June 10, Harry was listed as a very highly graded 4-star. Yesterday however, saw that 4-star status increase to a 5-star for 247 sports and that bodes well for the prospective Ohio State’s 2019 center. With a new star status, Miller is still the second best center prospect in the country for 2019 as well as the 32nd best recruit nationally for his class. Miller plans to graduate on time in June of 2019 eliminating the chance to enroll early, but with his high skill-set and intelligence, it’s becoming more and more clear that getting to campus after the spring season won’t really put him too far behind. The next Rimington Award winner may be headed to Columbus once again.
Some light shed on 2019 TE’s?
In every recruiting cycle there’s just some positions that you have to add depth too. For instance the quarterback and on both offensive and defensive lines, depth is crucial to the success of your future seasons. One position Ohio State recruited perfectly in 2018 was at the tight-end when Jeremy Ruckert signed with the Buckeyes. With all of the negative press the Buckeyes sometimes get concerning the position and mostly because of how tight-ends are used in Columbus, that didn’t have Ruckert worried when he picked his school of choice.
When you take the Ohio State tight-ends as group there’s really not a real concern for adding major depth. Ruckert as we previously mentioned just arrived to campus and when you consider Luke Farrell, Jake Hausmann, and Rashod Berry too, these are all guys with multiple years of eligibility still left on the shelf. A solid room for position coach, Kevin Wilson who is a true developer of the position and one would have to come to the conclusion Ohio State is set with their stockpiling of tight-ends for at least the next recruiting class. However, the recruitment of guys such as Brenton Strange brings the thought that the Buckeyes may in fact be in the market for another tight-end in 2019 even if the depth on campus is already very solid.
Strange is certainly thought to be the guy if the above information is indeed correct. Camping at Ohio State and visiting multiple times already this summer, it looked as if the Strange relationship was definitely commit worthy. Add in the in-state Erick All situation where a Buckeye offer never took place ending in a Michigan commitment, and you’d almost bank on Brenton Strange to the Buckeyes. This still could be true, but recent news has come out in the past few days that another prospect may be joining the headlines. Tennessee native, Cormontae Hamilton recently had a 247sports crystal ball prediction in favor of Ohio State. The interesting note here is the prediction was put in by a Tennessee insider so his wisdom has to be somewhat close to the situation.
June was a big month for Cormontae as he attended both camps at Alabama and Ohio State. Earning offers from both, Hamilton’s stock is sure to increase considering two of the prolific programs in college football both felt he was worthy of an offer. Time will tell how this plays out, but it could almost be a situation where the first tight-end to commit is the one that’s taken by the staff. Strange has been in this race a bit longer, but with the Cormontae development, anything is possible.
