Here is the complete list of Ohio's top 105 seniors-to-be in football, led by No. 1 choice Chris Wells. This list is reprinted from the May 2005 edition of Ohio High magazine. It contains links to each player's bio page in the Scout.com database.

Over the past several weeks, we unveiled the top 105 football prospects in the Class of 2006 as ranked by Duane Long in the May edition of Ohio High magazine.
Today, we will provide you the complete top 105 list.
First, though, are comments from Long on this class:
“The first thing I do when I look at a new class is look back. Every class seems to evolve and change as players progress; some come into their own and others just get left behind. None has undergone such a transformation as the Class of 2006.
“There were a larger number of players than usual in this class that made an impact on the varsity level as freshmen. We saw the most impressive receiver class I had ever seen as freshmen, and that continued as they went into their sophomore year. Last year, we saw that sparkling group of receivers start to come apart.
“First, David Lighty of Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph chose to concentrate on basketball. He had been the No. 1 overall player in the class at that point. His last football game was the state championship game after his sophomore year. He did not get a lot of balls thrown his way in that game, but what he did with the ones that he did get his hands on showed what a special athlete he was. I will always believe Lighty made a mistake – not just because I am a football guy, but because 6-6 basketball players are somewhat common, while as a receiver, he could have been unique.
“The 2003 state finals was also the last we saw of Cleveland Benedictine’s Lorenzo Hunter. He was taken from this world by the most senseless bit of violence. Sidney receiver JuJuan Jones was the one most people did not know about, but he may have been the most spectacular of the threesome. He is no longer living in Ohio, and he too gave up football. Cleveland Glenville’s Daven Jones, who recently committed to Wisconsin, is the only one of the foursome that remains. The receiver class is a shell of its once-spectacular self.
“You would think the class overall had been decimated. Wrong. It is better than ever. Of course, you would love to see all of those young receivers in this class too, but others have stepped up in such a way that the impact is muted.
“We started to see the quarterbacks relatively early. Anytime the name Schlichter comes up, football fans are going to perk up their ears. Miles Schlichter of Washington Court House Miami Trace was the first to emerge, but he was not the last. Springfield South’s Brennen Glass has been the most productive of the group. Last summer, with everyone looking for Canton GlenOak receiver Brian Hartline, the name that came out of the Ohio State camp was his younger brother, Mike Hartline.
“When you think of Cleveland St. Ignatius, you think quarterbacks, and the next in line is Rudy Kirbus. Most St. Ignatius quarterbacks do not start until later in their high school careers, so they mature later. He could top this class by November. Bellaire’s Nate Davis may be the most gifted of the lot, but it looks like he could play basketball in college. Newark has Aaron Huffman, while Xenia has Josh Cousins.
“All of these kids are Big Ten-caliber quarterbacks, but I would not be surprised to see most end up in the mighty MAC. Too many times, you see the big time programs pass over quality quarterbacks for a player with more raw physical tools. That is one reason why the MAC seems to be putting out more top quarterbacks than the Big Ten, the SEC or any of the leagues that we expect to see developing NFL talent. Long ago, football coaches learned that sprinters are sprinters, not receivers, and that they can’t play football. I wonder when they will realize they can’t make a quarterback out of a pitcher.
“We have seen the emergence of an offensive line class for the ages. I see at least six linemen in this class that are going to get national attention, and that does not include several others that will at least be regional recruits. There is no lineman like Alex Boone – the Lakewood St. Edward star who was last year’s No. 1 player – but as a group, Aaron Brown, Connor Smith, Justin Boren, Lee Tilley, Ryan Palmer, Jacob Ballard and Bryant Browning make this offensive line class for the year 2006 the best single position class I have ever seen in Ohio. Add Bill Nagy from Hudson to the class as an offensive lineman, although I think he is a better defensive lineman, and you have seven offensive linemen in the top 16.
“Overall, this is the best class since the 2002 class that featured – among many others – Bobby Carpenter, A.J. Hawk, E.J. Underwood, Quinn Pitcock, DeShawn Wynn, Justin Zwick, and Maurice Clarett. Speaking of Clarett, I have been saying for a couple of years that Chris Wells of Akron Garfield is the best back from Ohio since Maurice Clarett. If he improves as much from his junior year to his senior year as he did from his sophomore year to his junior year, I will be saying he is better than Clarett.”
With a number of combines and camps being conducted this spring and through late June, this list will be updated in the August edition of Ohio High. Subscription orders made between now and July 3 will start with that issue. Click this link for details on Ohio High:
