I know it is only practice, but I just wanted to pass along a little of what I know everyone is craving.
Pryor came onto the field at something of a jog. He seemed to take the opening calisthenics seriously, but was not overly enthusiastic.
His pacing back and forth on the sidelines was impressive. Little confusion over what foot came next and had no trouble alternating right and left. Chest out and shoulders back. He always seemed to know where his helmet was.
I did witness him scratching his ass. Used the left hand - middle and index finger I believe (unfortunately someone walked in front of my binoculars as this was going on). Good rotation of the wrist and seemed to get adequate relief.
At one point he came close enough to the sideline that I was able to catch his attention. I offered him one of my nachos. He gestured by pointing a finger down his throat. Either he was telling me that there were already lots of nachos down there, or he was letting me know that they make him gag. I am pretty sure it was the former. It HAD to be the former - don't you think? Surely Pryor likes nachos.
All of his reps were with the threes. I was surprised, however, that as a three he seemed to be getting as many reps as 1 and 2. This is not always the case and it certainly makes a statement that JT has plans for the kid this season.
Overall he was better than I expected. For a Frosh. This untrained eye could detect no significant flaws in his delivery. He was generally near the target - but I would be very concerned if I thought we were going to have to win games on his arm this year. And he is clearly not where Boeckman is. Todd was in command. He knew where he wanted to go with the ball and how to get it there. This was particularly clear in my favorite drill - a one on one in the corner of the end zone. Any reports (and I have seen them) that Pryor is making some sort of move on the #1 job were absolutely not supported by what took place last night. Boeckman was not spectacular, but he was very good at doing the things he needs to do to run this football team.
Pryor had several chances to run the ball and did nothing special with any of them. This is not a knock. No reason he should be blowing things up. But I saw little evidence that he is meeting the totally unrealistic expectations that many have for him.
I did not see any special "package" involving Pryor - nor should one have been expected in this sort of public exhibition.
Coach Daniels was on the field in a golf cart. Coach Daniels does not look well.
In full 11 on 11 I thought the #1 O fared well against the #1 D - for the most part. The DL had some good plays and Jenkins one handed pick of TB in the corner was evidence that he is indeed "lock down".
The #2 O had a little more trouble with the #2 D and the threes were pretty much a clusterfuck.
Bauserman looked fine. But it is Boeckman's team. There is no serious QB competition.
I forgot they would not have names on the jersey's and am a little "out of shape" on the numbers - but the one kid I looked up as soon as I got home was #7. Turned out to be Lamar Thomas. He looked good.
I would guesstimate 10-15k in attendance. That's just silly for no more than it was. I can recall watching live practice in '02 with a hundred or less standing on the sidelines over by the WHAC. And they did autographs.
Unfortunately I did not see the end of practice. I pulled out my camera and was immediately man-handled and removed by a couple of ushers.
What frustrates me is that I was not going to take a picture of a formation to send to Petey. Nor was I trying to become a Pryor-Paparazzi in an attempt to sell something to People Mag that could compete with the Branjolina twins.
I just wanted to take a picture of this incredibly hot chick. She was wearing a skin tight Dora T-shirt and looked EXACTLY like He Kexin. (I think here Dad was the one who called the ushers.)
