Oakland/Las Vegas A's (9x World Series Champions)

Nevada Senate passes $380M bill to fund new A's stadium in Las Vegas

The Nevada state Senate passed a $380 million bill Tuesday to help fund a new stadium for the Oakland A's in Las Vegas, the first step toward the expected move of the franchise.

After days of questioning from lawmakers about the wisdom of using public tax dollars to support a team owned by billionaire John Fisher, two amendments to the bill added Tuesday morning prompted a 13-8 vote in favor of the project.

While multiple steps remain to finalize the A's move, the passage of Senate Bill 1 -- in a special session called by Gov. Joe Lombardo, a proponent of Las Vegas adding a baseball team to the NHL's Golden Knights and NFL's Raiders -- paves the way for it to happen. If the 42-person Nevada Assembly approves it by a majority vote and Lombardo signs the bill into law, MLB owners plan to authorize the A's to relocate and end the team's half-century-plus-long tenure in Oakland.

MLB owners approve Athletics' planned move to Las Vegas, sources say

Major League Baseball owners voted Thursday to allow the Oakland Athletics to move to Las Vegas, paving the way for the second relocation of a baseball team in the past half-century, sources told ESPN.

The potential move, which comes after more than two decades of failed efforts to secure a new stadium in the city to replace the aging Oakland Coliseum, needed backing from three-quarters of teams at the quarterly owners meetings. It received unanimous support despite unanswered questions about the team's near-term future and stadium plans.

Legal challenges from a teachers union in Nevada regarding the $380 million the state has committed to the construction of a $1.5 billion stadium on the Las Vegas Strip still could scuttle the move, but winning approval from owners marks a significant step toward Oakland losing its last major men's professional sports team.

Add “Sacramento” A’s to the thread title now too

They're gonna play in a 14K seat minor league stadium for 3 years. What a joke. They will officially be known simply as "The A's" in all branding, no city name. So, do they plan on retaining or signing any free agents over the next 3-4 years? Good fucking luck. What an absolute clown show. This makes the Arizona Coyotes look like a well run organization.

Even the LV mayor thinks the A's should stay in Oakland?
