Nice graphic, but some of those odds are overstated. I think they add up to 227%.

No shit. Also, I'd like to know how they came up with those percentages. For example, they say it's a 15% chance Nuge will replace the Jets' Doug Brien (24/29, Long - 53 yards) but a 0% chance of replacing the Texan's Kris Brown (17/24, Long - 50 yards). Brown has far worse accuracy (63% vs. 83%) and his longest FG is 3 yards shorter (which could simple be factor of his team's field position) than Brien, but his job is a lock while Brien's is not.

Nugent articles (from http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/scorecard/index.html and http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050419/SPORTS/504190340/1001/SPORTS):

The Bucs, Vikings, 49ers, Falcons and Jets have expressed strong interest in Ohio State place-kicker Mike Nugent. -- Tampa Tribune

The Bucs haven't sent coaches to any of Ohio State place-kicker Mike Nugent's eight pro workouts this spring. They didn't bother to interview Nugent during their weeklong stay at the scouting combine and they haven't brought him to Tampa for a personal interview. It could mean something -- the Bucs want him.

Most draft experts project Nugent as a third-round pick. The Vikings are interested, but, like most teams, they struggle with the age-old question of whether any draft pick, let alone one on the first day, should be used on a kicker.

Kickers and punters may not get all of the attention during the NFL Draft, but this weekend there may be a couple going on the first day. Tennessee punter Dustin Colquitt and Ohio State kicker Mike Nugent are two of the best at their position and may be the rare specialists to go on the draft's first day. Nugent is projected as a second-round selection while Colquitt may go in the second round as well. He's projected as a third-round pick though. Nugent can produce booming kickoffs with consistency, dropping them inside the 5-yard line. He was one of the top placekickers in the country -- his 55-yarder beat Marshall and is the longest kick in Ohio Stadium history. He was selected to two all-America teams and won the Lou Groza Award for the best collegiate placekicker. "My focus on and off the field seems to always take care of itself," Nugent said on draftboardinsider.com. "It is like second nature to me. I just automatically focus on whatever I am doing because of my experience with football. Confidence is everything. "Everyone in the world can think that I can't make a certain kick, but as long as I have the confidence in myself, I feel like I can do anything. I take tasks one at a time with all of the confidence in the world."

Good find, ScriptOhio!

Makes a lot of sense to not waste those draft picks on somebody like Nugent.

OK, he might make a Pro Bowl a few times but who the hell wants fans chanting "NNNNUUUUGGGEEE" every time this guy comes on the field anyway, it screws up the branding and detracts from the really interesting stuff going on.

Pro sports is about filling the stands. The excitement for the fans comes from the unpredictability of the game. No sense in screwing that up by betting on a sure thing. I mean, geez, where's the excitement in Nugent coming on the field and just knocking them through the uprights from anywhere on the field? Be honest. He bored the hell out of us, right? Fans want their money's worth. Wouldn't it have been more exciting if the Marshall game went into overtime?

Yep. Agreed. Unpredictability is what you need in a kicker. Adds excitement. Boring predictability? No need to waste a draft pick on that. :shake:

I posted this on one of the other OSU draft threads, but i'll put it here too since this is specifically about him...

Bill Plasche (sp) on Around the Horn today was campaigning for NUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE to go in the first round of the draft.

I don't see it happening, but more and more I'm thinking he's a sure-fire second round pick
