Ok so I am actually asking a computer question instead of answering one, but we're all human right?

I got a Dell this year with Norton Internet Security 2005 pre-installed. The trial period ran out a month or so ago. For whatever reason, I keep getting an annoying Norton pop-up in the lower right taskbar saying: "Rules automatically created for: Gteko Dell Support"

It pops up like 5 times in a row and will pup up again like 20 seconds later...EXTREMELY annoying. Any thoughts here my fellow gurus?

Shoot the mutha fucking computer, do that first and then tell us what happens.

I don't know, maybe try uninstalling Norton from your computer? If you have Windows XP then go to Programs, then click on "Set Program Access and Defults", then when it comes up go to Change/Remove programs. Find Norton on that list and uninstall it.

Honestly, since its a "trial version" it is made to do that to get you to renew it with the full version. So its probably not going to give you any options of "disabling" the pop-ups. So you can either renew it, or just get rid of it. Your choice. But unless you have some other internet security software, I would lean on the side of renewing it. You don't want to be on the internet with no virus protection these days. So I suggest either...

1. Renewing the current software you have now.

2. Deleting the current software and buying another protection software.

Ok thank you...I could install one of my 5 copies of various Norton products. I was simply prying at the minds of the people normally perusing these threads. I know it has to do with the auto-updating feature of the product, now perhaps a way to disable this? And don't just say "Disable the auto-updating".

That is what I'm saying. I don't think there is a way to disable it. Since its a "trial version", they are going to be contuially "pushing" it on you until you pay to renew it. They usually won't give you a option of turning it off, since they want you to buy it.

so you want to disable the auto-update, and then what? teddy is right, you have to get something else installed. You either have to renew that or get rid of it.

Not exactly. At first I wasn't sure if the popup was legit, but with a little research I found it to be. As this convo has taken place I am now in possession of Internet Security 2006 full...but thanks anyways
