    Buckeyes win Game 1 7-2

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Ohio State opened the 2011 Big Ten Conference campaign with a 7-2 victory over Northwestern Friday night before 765 fans on a nippy but tolerable early April evening at Bill Davis Stadium. The win was Ohio State's third consecutive and upped its records to 9-10 and 1-0 in the Big Ten. Northwestern falls to 7-15 overall and 0-1.
Freshman Josh Desze and sophomore Greg Solomon paced Ohio State's 10-hit attack with three hits apiece including a double for each player. Solomon also drove in a pair of runs while Brad Hallberg scored a pair for the Buckeyes.
The Buckeyes got on the board with an unearned run in the bottom of the second to take the 1-0 lead. Dezse singled to lead off the inning and advanced to second on a wild pitch. After a strikeout of Matt Streng, Hallberg reached on a throwing error by Northwestern shortstop Kyle Ruchim but Dezse was thrown out at third on the play. Hallberg then stole second and Solomon drilled a two-out single up the middle to drive him in and give the Buckeyes the lead after two frames.
Ohio State almost added to its lead in the fourth when Dezse double to right and advanced to third with two down but Northwestern third baseman Chris Lashmet made a diving stop on a groundball in the hole by Hallberg and threw the Buckeye first baseman out to end the threat.

    Bucks drop Game 2 7-3

COLUMBUS, Ohio- Ohio State couldn't mount a come-from-behind win for a second consecutive game Saturday, dropping a 7-3 decision to Northwestern that evened the opening Big Ten Conference series at two games apiece. Game 3 will be Sunday at 2:05 p.m. at Bill Davis Stadium. "If we throw strikes and play defense we're going to be a tough team to beat in this conference and we didn't do that today," head coach Greg Beals said. "We also left 11 runners on base which did not help our cause. We need to bounce back tomorrow and get a win to take this series."
Northwestern was led by Paul Snieder, who had a couple of hits and three RBI, and relief pitcher Michael Jahns, who pitched 3.0 scoreless innings, to improve to 8-15 overall. Ryan Cypret had four hits for the Buckeyes, who fall to 9-11 overall.

The Buckeyes earn the series win with a thrilling 15-14 victory over Northwestern. The Bucks relief corps blew a 4 run lead in the top of the 9th only to overcome it with an unearned run in the bottom part of the frame. Delucia walked and then scored on an error. The Wildcats scored they 14 runs on 21 hits but committed 4 errors. Matt Streng was the hero at the plate going 4 for 5 including a 2-run home run with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored. Josh Drezse pitched a horrible 9th allowing 4 runs - all earned - but picked up the victory. Ohio State is now 10-11 on the year, 2-1 in the Big Ten.
