COLUMBUS, Ohio- Ohio State managed a split with North Florida Wednesday at Bill Davis Stadium, taking the nightcap by a 3-2 score after the Ospreys won Game 1, 7-2. The Buckeyes are now 20-19 on the season and North Florida, whose players finished their spring semester last week and enjoyed their first half-week of summer in 50-degree Ohio, is now 24-19.
"Scrappy is the way we've been playing," head coach Greg Beals said. "It has kind of been our battle cry. It hasn't always been the prettiest but we scrapped for five innings and then were able to get going. To find a way to win this ballgame is huge for this team."
Hitless into the sixth inning against UNF starter Tommy Organ in Game 2 and trailing by a 2-0 score, the Buckeyes finally got to the sophomore right-hander for two runs in the inning. Ohio State's first hit was a Greg Solomon bunt single and he advanced to second on a throwing error on the play. He scored on Brian DeLucia's two-out double that cut the lead to 2-1. DeLucia then tied the score on Ryan Cypret's single.
Then with two out in the seventh (and final inning), the Buckeyes' David Corna and Greg Solomon hit back-to-back singles, and Tyler Engle followed with a walk against UNF's third pitcher of the game, Chandler Jagodzinski. DeLucia then dropped a bloop single into right field to score Corna with the winning run.
